New York City is one of the biggest cities in the world; and within NYC’s crazy concrete jungle, busy streets and flashing lights trots a cherished symbol: the famed horse-drawn carriages. You’ve seen them in your favourite movies and TV shows. But what is the reality of horse-drawn carriages in New York City?

BLINDERS exposes the truth behind the tradition. Animal rights activists say that the operation of horse-drawn carriages should be banned because it is inhumane and unsafe. Carriage operators and city politicians say that horse-drawn carriages should stay because they are a cherished symbol of New York and attract tourists to the city.

As a result of several fatal accidents, the plight of the carriage horses is now in the public eye more than ever before. But the public doesn't know much more than what they see on the streets and on the news. Using a hidden camera, BLINDERS takes viewers behind the scenes to expose the underground aspects of the industry, including the inside of the multi-story warehouses where the horses are stored overnight and the auction in Pennsylvania where many spent carriage horses are sold into slaughter.
