Gun Safety Weekly Report, Louie Gohmert, Rick Scott, CPAC, Wayne LaPierre, More guns, El Camino High School, Florida shooting survivors speak at anti-gun rally, Florida legislature rejects ban on assault rifles & Ban Gun Ownership for Animal Abusers,

I like the idea of raising the gun buying age to 21 years old. I did not even realize it was not nor did I really even think about what age you could buy guns. Ironically, the only times I ever used guns was when I was a kid.

I have also seen kids use guns and therefore it also seems that you can be at any age to use a gun. I then assume a dad could buy a gun for his kid. Maybe it is smoke and mirrors although when I was under age, I drank. Someone had to get it for me. Or, I got it illegally.

If you add that age thing to what I have said many times that are easy fixes for now which is to ban Assault Weaponry again. Obviously we would have to 'Grandfather' what is out there now and then you should be able to do whatever you need to do on your own property. And, then you should be able to use those styles of weapons at gun ranges.

I am not sure why or where else you can use those styles of weapons outside of being in the military or if you wanted to commit a heinous crime. Like shooting up random people in any given public and random place.

You cannot hunt with that gun. It screws up the meat. You cannot eat any part of that meat where those bullets enter the body to then hammer down whatever organs it reaches inside of it.

That is what it did to those kids 2 weeks ago to kill them.

Then of course getting rid of those 'bump stocks' is so easy too. That is a clear way to circumvent what is illegal for heaven's sakes. There is no other use for that piece except to make a normal gun into an assault rifle.

Which is technically illegal even though we just discussed how we can buy normal Assault Rifles anyway.

Maybe 'bump stocks' are cheaper than however much that AR-15 costs which I believe I heard is less than 2K but maybe at about $1,500 but again, do not hold me to that because if I know the cost, I heard it on the fly over the last few weeks.

That 'bump stock' is of course what that guy used in Las Vegas at the outdoor concert. That was I think the largest mass shooting in America ever.

And, then this school shooting was probably like the 2nd largest school shooting (if Sandy Hook was 23 kids dead and this one was 17 kids dead, it is up there; however, I have no clue how many injuries in either mass shooting). I forget how many people died at Columbine.

I am so numb to this at this point and honestly, what was wild is when I was in Colorado last year, all I thought about when seeing Aurora on that Rand McNally map was that 'Movie Theatre Mass Shooting'. I know that kids name by heart which sucks. I won't repeat it here but still, I am pissed because I hardly know the others or scratch that, I know the kid's name off the top of my head that did the Church Shooting in South Carolina. I am pissed that I know their names to this day. I do NOT remember the Columbines Shooters names. I remember the Oregon shooting was some Muslim name and so I have no clue what their names were (I know one did the shooting but I think the wife was somehow involved or maybe she was blamed with that Plausible Denial).

The last two easy issues is to incorporate real background checks without any ridiculous loopholes like the gun show one:

HBO's "Real sports with Bryant Gumbel" sent in a 13-year-old boy to try buying beer, cigarettes, adult magazines and lottery tickets with no luck.
He was, however, able to go to a gun show and purchase a gun and on the first try mind you.

Background Checks to me would uncover any mental behavior issues. Trump keeps mentioning the mental behavior issue because in my eyes, it is another racket. It is a major money maker to treat people with mental behavior issues. But if Trump cared so much about that very issue, well actions speak louder than words.

Trump has already undone an Obama initiative that would add mentally ill people to a gun check register.

“So many signs that the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed, even expelled from school for bad and erratic behavior. Neighbors and classmates knew he was a big problem. Must always report such instances to authorities, again and again!,” Trump wrote in the tweet.

The tweet implies that the shooter in Florida should have been reported. (Even though he was not only reported to the FBI one time, he was also reported to local authorities 39 other times and was examined for mental behavior issues).

Trump literally repealed that initiative after being at the White House for less than a month last year. That would have made it harder for people with mental illness to buy a gun.

And last, is to see that bill that I have tried to get into peoples eyes and heads for years now which is that one where the entire industry cannot be sued (http://sustainableaction.wixsite.com/sustainableaction/hillary-clinton-makes-our-gun-safety-p)(http://donlichterman.blogspot.com/2015/10/another-day-another-mass-shooting-in.html).

That is insane.

What industry as a whole is immune to lawsuits?

None of the above makes any sense if you are not trying to sell more guns.

If you are a gun seller and a gun manufacturer, I get it. You need to sell guns. Sales are down and there is no so called 'boogie man' (aka President Blackenstein) in the White House that you can scare all of the yahoos that sleep with 18 guns under their pillows.

Which BTW, if you are a true gun collector, not only do I think that is perfectly fine, I also want to check out any cool guns used in world history. I mean for the design and rationale to make them better killing machines.

Well come to think of it, I doubt I have the time to checkout people's gun collections but I get where you are at. Just do NOT kill things with it. That is all. That is really the only issue we have with guns and gun related weaponry.

Just stop killing people and whatever with your guns and bullets.

If that stopped, just think of the possibilities!

No one would even give a flying fuck what happens with guns! Let alone what you do with them on your own time.

Anyway, I have a boat load of messages to spread here today. It is going to take me a long time considering what has gone down in the last two weeks.

One more thing to add to that list if to Ban Gun Ownership for Animal Abusers!
According to neighbors, the man who killed 17 people and injured up to 50 others in Parkland, FL this week, got his start hurting animals. Neighbors say he often attempted to kill their livestock. And classmates claim that he was obsessed with violence against animals and had an Instagram filled with posts of dead creatures.

Studies show that those that commit animal abuse are much more likely to resort to violence against humans. In fact, between 49% and 71% of women who experienced domestic abuse report that their pets have been threatened, harmed, and or killed.

And when investigators examined school shootings that took place across the country between 1988 and 2012, they found that nearly 50% involved perpetrators who had previously committed acts of animal cruelty.

The Parkland school shooter just further proves this link.

But despite that fact, convicted animal abusers can still purchase a gun, putting a legally acquired lethal weapon in the hands of someone who has demonstrated they have no respect for life. This madness must end and citizens like you can help.

Care2 needs your voice to make our country safer. Please join us and demand that Congress pass a bill banning those convicted of violence against animals from ever owning guns. We cannot continue to sit idly by allowing our politicians to get away with doing nothing. Please sign the petition and ask Congress to take action now!

'How about we stop blaming the victims?': Florida shooting survivors speak at anti-gun rally.
Students who survived the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High school have given emotive speeches condemning gun laws in the US. "The next death of someone with an assault rifle here in Florida is going to be on them... because they could have done something today." -- Sheryl Acquaroli, Parkland shooting survivor
Yesterday, as Sheryl and other young Parkland survivors looked on in horror and disgust, the Florida legislature voted overwhelmingly to reject a ban on assault rifles.

This is absolutely unacceptable. It was a slap in the face to a community that is reeling in pain right now -- and to everyone across this country who has been impacted by gun violence.

Time and time again, we've witnessed preventable gun-fueled tragedies in this country -- often committed using weapons of war like the AR-15. And time and time again, politicians have gotten away with offering up "thoughts and prayers" and nothing else.

No more. The young people of Parkland are demanding that our politicians DO SOMETHING and make concrete progress on gun reform. Let's show them that Democracy for America members will have their backs in this fight.

Sign Democracy for America's petition and tell lawmakers to listen to survivors instead of the NRA. We need meaningful gun reform -- including an assault weapon ban -- immediately.

In the wake of a horrifying school shooting that claimed 17 innocent lives, the young people of Parkland, Florida are organizing -- and they're breathing new life into the movement for sensible gun laws.

Over the weekend, a moving video of Parkland student Emma González calling "BS" on politicians who say that this isn't about guns -- or that nothing can be done about gun violence -- went viral. And at least three major protests demanding change are in the works, many of them led by the very students who are being impacted by the threat of gun violence.

Not only is the organic organizing we're seeing incredibly inspiring, it's already moving the needle on gun reform. A Quinnipiac poll taken after the shooting and released on Tuesday showed that people favored stricter gun laws 66% to 31% -- the highest level of support ever recorded by that polling firm.

The next generation is standing up and demanding that politicians prioritize saving people's lives over taking dirty NRA money. Let's make sure that they know which side we are on.

Sign Democracy for America's petition and tell lawmakers to stop chasing dirty NRA money and pass common sense gun reform -- including an assault rifle ban -- now.

No Republicans voted to even consider the assault weapons ban. No Democrats voted not to.

Can you support the work supporting bold progressive candidates at the federal, state, and local levels who will fight to finally enact strong gun control measures that can make our communities safe?

Their classmates were murdered. Now they're fighting back. And it's time for us to do the same.

at a CNN town hall, Parkland students and community members called out the NRA, the politicians it pays and protects, and our whole corrupt system for refusing to protect our children from gun violence.

Today, at a far right-wing gathering in Washington, the NRA struck back with its own vision for America -- and it's terrifying.

In his speech at CPAC, NRA leader Wayne LaPierre took a brief break from blaming liberals and stoking cultural resentment to tell us what the NRA wants to do about school shootings:
"Everyday young children are being dropped off at schools that are wide-open, soft targets for people bent on mass murder. In every community in America...they must come together to implement the very best strategy to harden our schools, including effective, trained, armed security...and that has to happen NOW."

Our schools should not look and feel like prisons. We can't let the NRA impose its dystopian vision of "security" on our homes and communities. And we can't let NRA-backed politicians continue to kill every single popular proposal that would take weapons of war off of our streets and bring real safety to our schools.

Democracy for America is backing a whole slate of candidates who are looking to take down NRA champions this fall -- candidates who will oppose the NRA's agenda and back meaningful gun reform, including an assault weapons ban.

The NRA's vision for a more armed America has plenty of support from its pet politicians. At a listening session with gun violence victims yesterday, Donald Trump also made it clear that he will respond to the Parkland school shooting by pushing to arm teachers, militarize security at our schools and make police departments even more aggressive.

In other words, more "good guys" with guns. More "bad buys" with guns. More guns. Always more guns.

Americans don't want more guns. A recent Quinnipiac poll found that 59% of Americans think arming more people would make us less safe. But the NRA doesn't work for Americans -- or even for their own members. They work for the corporations that make a profit from selling guns.

That's why the NRA's agenda is as extreme as it is. Corporate hunger for profits trumps concern for the safety of our communities every single time. And the politicians who take NRA money are complicit in valuing profits and power over human lives.

The American people overwhelmingly support common sense gun reforms, including an assault rifle ban, that would protect our children without turning our communities into militarized zones. And the only thing standing in our way is the NRA and the mob of politicians they're propping up.

The NRA isn't going to give up the power they have over our political system on their own. They need to be defeated at the polls. We're going all in to take out some of the NRA's favorite politicians -- including Paul Ryan -- and we need your help.

After School Threat, Cops Find Cache of Guns, Ammo
Security officer overheard teen threaten school shooting
Police say they found a cache of guns and ammo, including two AR-15 rifles, in the home of a student who was overheard saying "he was going to shoot up the school sometime in the next three weeks." Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell says the "disgruntled" 17-year-old was reported to authorities on Feb. 16, two days after 17 students were killed in the Parkland, Fla., mass shooting, ABC News reports. El Camino High School security officer Marino Chavez says he confronted the student after hearing him make the threat, reports the Washington Post. Chavez says after the student said he'd only been joking, he told him: "I know you students say a lot of things. But you can't be saying these words." Authorities say the student has an "extensive" history of disciplinary problems.

Police say that when they searched the student's Whittier, Calif., home, they found the AR-15s, one of which was unlicensed, as well as two handguns and 90 high-capacity magazines, the Whittier Daily News reports. The 17-year-old, whose name has not been released, is being held without bail on a charge of making a criminal threat. The student's brother, 28-year-old Daniel Barcenas, who told investigators he obtained the guns while stationed with the Army in Texas, is being held on charges including possession of an assault weapon. McDonnell says he believes the teen was "moving toward" an attack. The sheriff says 19 leads about possible school attacks have been received since last week's mass shooting, compared to 52 in all of 2017. (President Trump has proposed arming teachers to prevent school shootings.)

Florida Governor Breaks With NRA on Guns
Rick Scott wants to bar anyone under 21 from buying one; does not want to arm teachers. Just over a week after the murder of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Florida Gov. Rick Scott unveiled a plan Friday to keep his state's students safer: a $500 million proposal to ban bump stocks, restrict people under age 21 from purchasing guns, and prohibit the "violent or mentally ill" from buying weapons, NBC News reports. "I want to make it virtually impossible for anyone who is a danger to themselves or others to use a gun," Scott said, per the New York Times. The age restriction would mark Scott's first big rebuff of NRA policy, per the Washington Post. "I'm an NRA member (and) a supporter of the Second Amendment," Scott said. "I'm also a father and a grandfather and a governor. We all have a difficult task in front of us balancing our individual rights with our obvious need for public safety."

Among the initiatives included in Scott's plan are revamping building security to include metal detectors, better locks, and bulletproof glass; placing a "law enforcement officer in every public school"; and working more on "mental health initiatives." What Scott isn't pushing for: banning the AR-15 rifle, which was the type of weapon used in the shooting, and arming teachers, as President Trump and others have called for (to much criticism) in recent days. "Banning specific weapons … is not going to fix this," Scott said. He also said he'd rather see "well-trained" members of law enforcement brought in to protect schools than hand weapons to educators. "We must take care of our kids," he said, per CNN. On Wednesday, the NRA said it will fight any attempt to raise age limits, saying that move would "[punish] law-abiding citizens for the evil acts of criminals."
