Last week, after the horrifying execution of two young journalists on live television, we were all told that the aftermath of yet another tragedy was "not the time to act" to keep the dangerously mentally ill from getting their hands on guns.

But the sad truth is, if we are forced to wait for a day without gun violence in the United States, we will be waiting forever for the action demanded by over 80% of Americans -- Republicans and Democrats alike.

According to the non-profit Gun Violence Archive, 57 people have been killed with a gun in the last seventy-two hours.

The truth is, we cannot afford to wait a minute longer. Now is precisely the time to act.

And we will.

Over the course of the next year, we are going to pass ballot initiatives to expand background checks in states. We are going to continue to change the laws at the state level to keep criminals from getting their hands on guns. And we are going to defeat legislators who live in the grip of the gun lobby. Join us.

Add your $3 contribution to Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC to help us challenge and defeat the gun lobby in states across the country in 2015 and 2016.

The father of one of the young journalists killed last week, said "It can't be that hard. And yet, politicians from the local level, and the state level, to the national level, they sidestep the issue, they kick the can down the road. This can't happen anymore."

He's right. It's a fight we started together shortly after the massacre at Sandy Hook. And it's one we'll continue until Congress FINALLY acts to make our communities safer from gun violence
