South Korea Bans Importation of Taiji's Dolphins. Dolphins caught in Taiji Japan’s notorious drive hunts will no longer be welcome in South Korea. Today, the Ministry of Environment announced a revised bill on the Protection and Management of Wildlife, banning all imports of dolphins captured in such a brutal manner. Dolphin Project Take Action Now
Imports will also be restricted if the mammals are captured in areas where wild populations are either unclear, or are in decline.

How did a centuries-old relationship between man and dolphin become so corrupt?
How did a centuries-old relationship between man and dolphin become so corrupt?
In Taiji, dolphins are chased, then driven into the cove for the purposes of capture or slaughter. The hunts are relentless, with countless mammals dying during the drives themselves. Dolphins are listed in Appendix II of CITES – the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora –  meaning they may not be threatened with extinction today, but may become so unless trade is closely controlled.

Dolphin Project has supported our South Korean friends and colleagues for many years in their efforts to ban dolphin imports from Taiji. We extend a warm “congratulations” to Hot Pink Dolphins, Korean Animal Welfare Association and Korean Federation for Environmental Movement of Ulsan on their success. Dolphin Project Take Action Now
BREAKING: San Francisco Becomes First Major US City to Ban Fur Sales. The cruelty-free future of fashion is here and now: San Francisco has officially become the largest city in the U.S. to ban fur sales!

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to ban fur following weeks of tumultuous debate between animal rights activists and retailers. The Golden City follows two other California cities— Berkeley and West Hollywood— in banning fur sales.

This historic victory for animals comes after appeals from PETA and local activists, who have attended numerous committee meetings on the issue and held a rally at City Hall just a few weeks ago. San Francisco native Alicia Silverstone also weighed in by sending a letter on PETA’s behalf to the Board of Supervisors, urging it to ban fur from the progressive, forward-thinking city.

“For decades, my friends at PETA have been exposing horrific cruelty in the fur trade all over the world,” wrote Silverstone. “There’s so much violence in the world that’s beyond our control, but banning fur sales is one easy way to set an example of compassion for the whole world to follow. It would make me even more proud to call San Francisco home.”

could become the first major US city to ban fur! PETA joined forces with compassionate people outside to be LOUD for animals who suffer for fur. http://peta.vg/254a
“It is estimated that around the world some 50 million animals are slaughtered in gruesome ways so that we can wear their fur,” Supervisor Katy Tang— the ban’s author— told the San Francisco Chronicle. Tang noted that she hopes the city’s compassionate decision will send a worldwide message about fur.

Fellow Supervisor Jeff Sheehy added, “It’s unethical and immoral to raise animals for their skins.”

San Francisco’s fur ban is expected to go into place January 1, 2019, and it will apply to anything made with animal fur, including gloves, coats and keychains.
