Victory! Illinois Is First State To Ban Elephants in Entertainment! You spoke up - Illinois listened! Illinois is the first state in the U.S. to ban the use of elephants in circuses and travelling shows. Many cities and towns are passing similar bans, but this statewide law is a first, and will prove incredibly effective in protecting elephants. Illinois is the first, but it may not be the only statewide ban for long. LEARN MORE
Illinois Becomes First State Ever to Ban Traveling Elephant Acts. Great news—Illinois has taken an unprecedented stand against those who wish to exploit animals for profit. There are still roughly 50 elephants being hauled around the country for rides and circuses, but we won't stop until all elephants and other animals are free. HELP END ALL ANIMAL ACTS
Renaissance Festivals Plan to Host Elephant Rides Despite Knowing the Cruelty Involved. Elephants used for fairs spend much of their lives in shackles. They routinely suffer from painful and debilitating joint and foot problems and may sway back and forth endlessly—a symptom of psychological distress. Despite this and the threat to public safety that these exhibits pose, these festivals still plan to exploit elephants on weekends from August through October. ACT TO END ELEPHANT RIDES
Kiwanis Club Cancels Circus but Rejects PETA's $2K Donation to Stop Exploiting All Animals. After the Heath Moundbuilders Kiwanis Club canceled its plan to host the Carson & Barnes Circus, PETA offered it a $2,000 donation—if the club agreed never to use fundraisers that exploit animals for entertainment. The board members rejected the offer because they "do not wish to constrain any future activities." TAKE ACTION NOW
