“Both horses were malnourished and pregnant[,] … the victims of severe neglect. … [I]t wasn’t clear if they or the foals they were carrying would live.”
Willow and Stormy, last year’s National Justice for Animals Week representatives, were victims of severe neglect at the hands of a known abuser. When they were found, rescuers didn’t know if they or their unborn foals would survive.
But thankfully they did survive — both horses made a full recovery and delivered healthy babies! They were lucky — but so many others are not so lucky. That’s why it’s important to keep fighting for change in our society — animals need more than “luck” to protect them.
Because this is what justice should look like: Thanks to dedicated prosecutors and our expert testimony, Willow and Stormy’s former owner was brought to justice and prohibited from owning, possessing, and caring for horses for ten years. Sadly, this is not the case for most. Abusers routinely face little to no repercussions for their crimes against animals.
Willow and Stormy’s story shows the difference that you can make — not just for these two horses, but for all animals across America.
Because while Willow and Stormy now have the care justice demands, Justice is still fighting in court for his own care.
Justice is another horse who was also severely neglected by his former owner. He is this year’s representative for National Justice for Animals Week, and throughout this special week we will be sharing more of Justice’s story, and how your support can help Justice and the millions of other abused and exploited animals like him across the country.
At the time of his rescue, Justice was suffering from starvation, frostbite, and other grave injuries due to his owner’s failure to provide him with basic care — including food and shelter. Justice was 300 pounds underweight.
Justice is a survivor. We chose him to serve as the representative for this year’s National Justice for Animals Week because this abused and neglected horse is still looking for justice of his own.
In an effort to get Justice the justice he deserves, we’ve filed a groundbreaking lawsuit on Justice’s behalf against his former owner — that, if successful, will be the first to establish that animals have a legal right to sue their abusers in court.
Due to his abuser’s actions, Justice will require ongoing, expensive medical care for the rest of his life – and we believe that his abuser should pay for that care. Our lawsuit seeks damages for Justice’s long-term care with the funds going into a trust to pay for his care.
If we win, we will ensure that Justice gets the care he needs for the rest of his life. And we will also make important progress toward establishing the precedent that animals are individuals with their own lives and interests that deserve legal protection.

When the leopard cub arrived at our Leopard Rescue Centre, her physical condition was heartbreaking. Hit by a car while crossing a busy highway to join her mother, the cub was critically injured and unable to walk. Though her prognosis seemed bleak, our veterinary team sprang into action.

X-rays revealed that the cub had sustained spinal injuries which had caused complete limb paralysis. Our senior veterinarian, Dr. Ajay Deshmukh, nevertheless decided to begin a holistic treatment plan, including medication as well as extensive physiotherapy.

Miraculously, the leopard cub is growing stronger with each passing day, and has even been up on her feet!

It's impossible to know how complete a recovery the young leopard will make. One thing that's certain is that we will never give up on her, and we know you won't either.
