YOU wouldn’t want to be used as a ‘guinea pig’ for painful, invasive research. Neither does an actual, live guinea pig.
Animals don’t volunteer to be test subjects—they don’t have a choice. But we do.
Thanks to you, AAVS’s affiliate, the Alternatives Research & Development Foundation (ARDF) funds projects to develop humane, non-animal research models that are not only more ethical, but that also advance research and testing for human health. That’s our choice.
Projects funded by ARDF grants include: biochips to study liver disease progression and causes of premature birth; alternative models that use human cells to construct complex 3-D tissues to study serious human health issues such as juvenile cancer and autism; and “mini-brains” made of human neurons and cells, which could revolutionize drug testing and be used to find treatments for diseases like Parkinson’s.
This May, our scientific advisors will begin reviewing grant proposals submitted to our Annual Open Grant Program. Help us make this the year that we fund more projects than ever before. Please contribute a special gift to make that happen.
We will not compromise on the goal to achieve full replacement of animals in science. Thank you for being part of this progressive movement that helps animals and people.
Help protect animals from a lifetime of pain, fear, and loneliness.
Right now, rabbits, mice, dogs, monkeys, and other animals languish in laboratories as they listen for the footsteps of a white-coated worker—who will soon arrive to put them through another round of painful experiments.
Many will endure such torment over and over again for months, or even their entire lives, until the day that experimenters kill them and dissect their bodies.
No rabbit, dog, or other living, feeling being should suffer this way. Will you please make a gift right now to help animals and fuel PETA's work to prevent such misery?
Deadly experiments are taking place here in Asia and around the world, right as this request to you is being written. Some regulatory agencies still require companies to conduct experiments in which the chemicals in pesticides, cosmetics, and household products—no matter how toxic or dangerous they're already known to be—are forced down animals' throats or applied to their sensitive skin or delicate eyes. Such tests can leave thousands of animals dead—without yielding a single result relevant to humans.
Through the PETA International Science Consortium, we're working to inform companies, scientists, and politicians of the many human-relevant, non-animal research methods available—and encouraging their use. The Consortium's scientists are also promoting non-animal approaches at well-attended scientific conferences. But we must do more.
Together, we're making a future without experiments on animals possible, and your generous donation to PETA today can help bring that wonderful day closer.
36 dogs, 1 unnecessary test
In the United States, more than 60,000 dogs are used in toxicity testing and research per year. Through an undercover investigation, we've recently located 36 beagles being used in an unnecessary 1-year pesticide test by Dow AgroSciences. The time to act is now—please demand that Dow stops this test and releases the dogs to the Humane Society of the United States immediately.
These dogs are more than a number. Harvey the beagle, whom we met being used in a test for a different company, was one of the unlucky dogs confined to a lab. Dubbed a "good boy" for standing out and loving people even while being experimented on, Harvey was treated like an object until he was euthanized.
An example of what these beagles experience in labs.
After living in a cage, day after day, being robbed of the life all dogs deserve, these dogs are eventually euthanized. Their last day is often their best day, as they're finally allowed out of the cage to walk around and enjoy human touch that was, for once, gentle.
There are thousands of dogs in laboratories today but we have a chance to save these 36. We need you to help us put pressure on those responsible to release the dogs and stop conducting this test now.
While we couldn't save Harvey, we still have a chance to save others like him. Use your voice today to help these dogs who so desperately need our help. Every test we end brings us closer to a better future for dogs.
Hundreds of cats and dogs are bred and tormented by Liberty Research, Inc., every year.
