Mighty Earth conducted research on the top 23 food companies in the U.S. in regards to their environmental standards set in place for meat suppliers. These companies include fast food corporations like McDonald’s, Starbucks, and Chipotle, grocery chains like Costco, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods, and food service companies like Aramark and Sysco. The researchers evaluated environmental standards related to feed sourcing, manure management, and greenhouse gas emissions, and all companies, except for Wal-Mart that barely scored higher, received a score of a big, fat “F,” failing to commit to sustainable practices in regards to meat production. Nineteen of these companies had no policy whatsoever in regards to ensuring sustainable practices from their meat suppliers.
