In Defense of AnimalsAndy the Abandoned Great Dane...

Poor Andy. When the sheriff's department found him, he'd just been forsaken. Left behind. He's bone-skinny. And he has a severe ear infection, awful mange, internal parasites, and heartworm. More than that, he just looks so sad. How could we ever say no? Needless to say, we scooped Andy up, gently, and whisked him back to Hope Animal Sanctuary.

Will you help sponsor the care of Andy and other tragically neglected dogs like him until they are ready for new forever homes? Please click or tap here.

The Kitty Who Wouldn't Leave Her Sibling...
The animal control officer's text said simply, "I have a problem." But oh, the heartbreak! He'd found two tiny kittens. One was dead, and the other would not leave her lifeless sibling behind. The officer's city pound was not set up for cats or kittens. This was a true emergency. She was still clinging to her dead sibling when we arrived on the scene. We put on gloves and carefully took Miss Kitty into our arms. At last she calmed down, and she's now here at Hope!

Miss Kitty and lots of other little kittens and puppers at Hope Animal Sanctuary will need food, care, and adoption screening for a new home. Help them now by clicking here.

Toby Never Growled or Whined...
I'm so sorry to have to show such a disturbing photo. But I know you'll understand because it has the best of endings. Desolate, stray Toby just appeared at someone's house, and they were frantic to find he had a steel beaver trap caught around his head! Knowing traps can cause severe injuries and death to any animal, the Hope Animal Sanctuary team sped to the rescue.

Patiently, patiently, they coaxed him out of hiding with soft food. At the veterinarian's at last, Toby never growled or whined while the trap was being removed from his head. And the very next day at the sanctuary, he wobbled over to Sharon, his rescuer, and rested his swollen head on her knee as if to say, "Thank you, friend."

Like so many of the injured, abused animals who come to Hope Animal Sanctuary, Toby is a gentle soul with a long way to go. Please could you give to help him?

With your donation of whatever you choose to give today, you have our word that we will never let you or the animals down, no matter how dire the need.

Rescuers from Chillicothe, Ohio found an abandoned small dog wandering around Yoctangee Park all alone. The Terrier-mix was one of the many dogs dumped by irresponsible people who were supposed to be their “guardians.” There was something unusual and unbelievable about this pup, though; the dog was covered with permanent marker that read “free” and “good home only.” Fortunately, the pup was soon rescued and on her way to learning what it means to be loved.

The dog, marked as if she was an object rather than a living being, was taken in by the Ross County Humane Society and named Marvella. The staff was shocked and outraged by what had been done to the animal.
“So I usually try to contain myself with my work life and with what I see every single day, but this just tops it off! How are you going to dump your dog, and write FREE all over it in permanent marker!” staff member Brittany May said on Facebook.
Marvella received a thorough bath that managed to remove most of the permanent marker. Her story spread on social media and applications to adopt her quickly started to pour in.
After considering hundreds of potential homes, Ross County Humane Society found “the one.” Marvella is now living with Linette Wrightsel and her family – and she is finally starting to enjoy her life!

“Please remember that in any shelter on any given day there are dogs who have been given away as ‘free to good home’ and are awaiting their forever home, just like Marvella,” the organization emphasized while sharing the good news about the pup. “Please support your local animal shelters and adopt, don’t shop.”

While we can’t imagine who could do such a thing to a sweet dog like Marvella, we are so glad she has finally found people who will treat her like the queen she is!

Greyhound protection organization GREY2K USA recently shared the happy story of a group of dogs who were saved from a Chinese slaughterhouse and brought to safety! The long journey to their new home in the U.S. was more than worth it – these pups will finally be able to lead normal lives and be adopted into loving families.

The dogs were escorted by GREY2K USA’s Vice President, Eric Jackson.
The Greyhounds’ rescue was possible thanks to incredible teamwork and the priceless help of volunteers.
The effort was organized by Sonia Healy Stratemann and Elite Greyhound Adoptions South Florida.
The rescued Greyhounds successfully completed the journey and arrived safely in Houston, Texas.
From there, they were sent on their way to Florida – one step closer to finding their real homes!

GREY2K USA Worldwide is the largest Greyhound protection organization in the world. Since its formation in 2001, the non-profit has been working to pass stronger Greyhound protection laws and end dog racing on national and international levels.

Dog meat consumption in China has been declining since the beginning of the 21st Century, but around 20 million dogs are still being killed for meat in the country each year. Social attitudes toward the practice are changing and, according to Humane Society International, most people in China do not eat dog meat and are looking forward to the issue of the illegal dog meat trade to be tackled.

Thankfully, these rescued dogs will no longer have to fear for their lives! To learn more about GREY2K USA, click here. All image source: Sonia Healy Stratemann/Facebook

When PETA first met Edamama, she suffered from a plum-sized inguinal hernia. Her guardians told us that she was hit by a lawn mower last year but they didn't have the funds to give Edamama the medical attention she desperately needed. Edamama was left to heal on her own which likely contributed to the hernia.
This condition can be life-threatening and her owners had no money for the costly surgery so they opted to relinquish custody to PETA. Our clinic performed the procedure and Edamama recovered like a champ and bounced back in no time.
Now that she's feeling better, her true spicy Chihuahua character is finally flourishing.

This six-year-old little soybean has a large-and-in charge personality. She will indulge other dogs her own size but this tiny dog gives bigger dogs a bit of ‘tude. Edamama loves to chase cats too, so she'd likely do best in a feline-free home.
