The Los Angeles Rams needed to address the quarterback situation, as the past years have not been the best of years for any quarterback under center for the Rams. Los Angeles knew they found something special in QB Jared Goff, as they traded away an arm and leg for him. With OTA’s already underway, it was important that Goff lead the team right away.
Offensive coordinator Rob Boras and quarterbacks coach Chris Weinke are already liking the improvement of Goff in weeks. Could Goff lead the Rams too much more expectation in the 2016 season? By the looks of it, both offensive coaches are loving the new QB.
Rams insider Myles Simmons interviewed both coaches, as they both talked about the Work Ethic and Showing of Early Progress in OTA’s.
“The guy is just a natural passer of the football. You can tell he’s a natural athlete,” the QB coach said. “He was probably the smoothest guy that I’ve evaluated in a long time, as it relates to pocket awareness and pocket presence. – Weinke
“Time after time, you’ve seen him make big plays,” Weinke continued. “And the guy made some ‘wow’ throws that not a lot of college guys have made — or that I’ve ever seen on film. – Weinke
Quarterback Coach Chris Weinke is starting to see the evolution of Goff, hopefully everything he has told is actually true. I’m pretty sure every Ram fan has heard around the same stories once Sam Bradford came to the Rams.
On the flip side, offensive coordinator Rob Boras is impressed by the determination of the rookie.
“The thing that’s really impressed me with Jared has just been his commitment to the classroom and his commitment to learn,” Boras said. “He’s been in there early for every meeting — I don’t mean five-minutes early. The meeting is supposed to start at 8:30, he’s trying to roll in and he’s always working.” – Boras
“We need to raise our level of expectations, not just for him but for this entire offense. So we’re trying to put as much not only on Jared, but with all of these guys, as possible,”- Boras
Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff has a lot to prove in his rookie year. It’s a good start that both offensive coaches are impressed with the QB from Cal both on and off the field.
Nick Foles sitting out of Los Angeles Rams OTAs. Nick Foles is not happy that the Los Angeles Rams drafted Jared Goff to solve their quarterback issues and he is protesting.
According to Jim Trotter of ESPN, Foles “has not participated in a team-run training session since the Rams took Goff first overall. The fifth-year pro even skipped the start of organized team activities on Tuesday, and multiple sources told ESPN.com it is because the Rams drafted a quarterback.”
I get it. It is not fun when someone is brought in to replace you. Foles is probably an extremely competitive guy who thinks he can lead the Rams to the promise land. That being said, can he really blame the organization for making this move?
Foles has had one good season in the NFL, and that was in 2013 with the Philadelphia Eagles where Chip Kelly’s offensive system probably inflated his numbers. The past two seasons (one in Philly and last year with the Rams) Foles has been a pretty bad NFL quarterback.
Last season he completed only 56% of his passes while throwing seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Foles did not look like a starting caliber quarterback last season, and pretty much lost his job to Case Keenum down the stretch.
Even if the Rams did not trade up for Goff, Keenum would be the favorite to come in as the starter in 2016, not Foles.
Regardless, Goff is the quarterback for the Rams both right now and in the future, and no holdout from Nick Foles is going to change that.
Jeff Fisher: I'm fine with Nick Foles sitting out OTAs. Sam Bradford wasn't the only quarterback peeved his team traded up to draft a signal-caller of the future.
NFL Media's Steve Wyche reported Wednesday that Los Angeles quarterback Nick Foles has not participated in team-run workouts since the Rams drafted Jared Goff No. 1 overall. Foles had been a regular at team workouts prior to the draft, Wyche added, but he skipped the start of organized team activities on Tuesday.
ESPN's Jim Trotter first reported the news.
Wyche added that the Rams do not have a mandatory mini-camp scheduled so Foles could miss all voluntary work over the next few weeks without being fined. Foles could face fines should he decided to hold out from training camp this summer.
Coach Jeff Fisher addressed Foles' absence after Wednesday's session.
"I've had conversations with Nick and we're on the same page," Fisher said. "And we're trying to work things out. "We're in the process of sorting things out with Nick. It has nothing to do with him not wanting to come in and compete at all. He's very, very competitive. We appreciate everything he did for us and his leadership (and) his teammates miss him."
The likelihood of Foles not being on the Rams' roster this season has probably played into his decision to not participate in OTAs, Fisher said.
"I think Nick has the feeling that if things stay the same he's probably not going to be on the roster," Fisher said. "But beyond that it was more of a mutual thing, not that we said don't come. It was just say 'Hey coach I'd just rather, I'd just rather stay away until we get things worked out.' And I said I'm fine with that."
The Rams traded Bradford for Foles last season -- a move GM Les Snead admitted he knew might fail -- then signed him to a two-year, $24.5 million extension, with $13.8 million guaranteed. After just nine starts, Foles had lost his job to undrafted Case Keenum.
Foles' contract is the only thing even keeping him on the roster, for now. The QB received a $6 million roster bonus in March (before the team traded for the No. 1 pick) and owns a guaranteed base salary of $1.75 million this season.
If the Rams could find a sucker to take Foles off their hands, he'd be traded. The guaranteed money might not even save the quarterback's roster spot when cuts come this summer.
Unlike Bradford, Foles wasn't slotted as the starter entering offseason workouts even prior to the team trading up for a rookie. The Rams had already realized he was a terrible decision-maker who short-circuited their goal of protecting the football while relying on the ground game. Over the past two seasons Foles has a 20-20 TD-INT ratio. Even those with terrible vision can see he's not starting quarterback material.
Foles' skipping workouts should ultimately have no impact on the team's decision to keep or move on from the backup -- if anything they might appreciate more practice reps for Goff.
In the most recent NFL Draft, it was clear that the now-Los Angeles Rams were going to need to make serious improvements on the offensive end.
With a star running back on the roster and a wide receiver unit that was still trying to find their identity, the easiest way to fix things was to get a quarterback they could trust.
Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles was thought of as the team’s answer at the important position not too long ago, but after losing the starting job to Case Keenum last season, it’s been nothing but downhill for Foles.
And the drafting of Jared Goff seemed to point to the idea that he was now an afterthought.
With Goff now being the point of focus at the quarterback position, Foles has decided to protest by not showing up to off-season activities, according to ESPN.
Per the report:
Veteran quarterback Nick Foles, a regular when offseason workouts began April 18, has not participated in a team-run training session since the Rams took Goff first overall. The fifth-year pro even skipped the start of organized team activities on Tuesday, and multiple sources told ESPN.com it is because the Rams drafted a quarterback.
Plenty of talk surrounding Goff viewed him as a future franchise cornerstone; the kind of quarterback that any team could use.
Goff will have more than enough growing pains in his rookie season in the NFL, especially if he gets the official starting nod for opening day.
Some may argue that Foles wasn’t given as much slack, but given the fact that he’d brought some success to the Eagles — including a run to the playoffs — there wasn’t much room in the first place.
Where the team goes from now is really up in the air, and it only adds more spice to the Rams’ appearance on HBO’s Hard Knocks.
Jeff Fisher has a lot to do in Los Angeles, and that includes finding a way to convince the rest of the roster to support their decision at quarterback.
Case Keenum could still be a good option at second string, but the more that Foles continues to distance himself from the team, the more likely it seems that his days with the Rams are coming to an end.
It did not take long for the Los Angeles Rams to take the spotlight as one player is already being featured in a new Carl’s Jr Commercial.
The Los Angeles Rams have not played a single game in 2016, but the franchise is already making their way into the Los Angeles spotlight. With The Rams organization aiming to build a better fan base and reclaim the fans who once were ‘Los Angeles Rams fans’ what’s a better way then to have their offensive rookie of the year be featured in a commercial.
Rams running back Todd Gurley was the face of the offense last year, and there is a pretty good chance that he will be the face for many years to come. With that in mind, It’s time for other NFL Fans to meet the many faces of the Los Angeles Rams. In a soon-to-be-released burger by Carl’s Jr, Gurley stars in this featured commercial.

Break time isn’t when you stop doing something, it’s when you start doing something else.
This new “Welcome to California” ad will premiere this upcoming Monday. Along with Gurley being the main star, he co-starrs with comedian Jay Mohr who is playing as Gurley’s agent.
In the commercial, Gurley is walking with his agent, as he signs a football and poses for a selfie with a fan. That will probably be a typical day in the life of Gurley here in Los Angeles. This is not the first time Gurley has been used as an image for the Los Angeles Rams
The Rams tweeted a photo via social media that shows the past and present of the team in Los Angeles. On the top, is Rams RB Todd Gurley with Dennis Harrah (1975-87) Guard on the bottom photo.
