Gun Safety Update: The gun lobby stands with Trump

In just a few months, the gun lobby will host one of the "most politically significant" events of the year: the annual NRA Leadership Forum.

And one of this year's featured speakers: Donald Trump

There are a number of issues where Donald Trump is well out of step with the American people, but only one where he disagrees with 90% of Americans: taking commonsense steps to keep guns out of the wrong hands.

And on that issue, there is no better voice to make that point clear than Gabby, Mark, and Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC: That's why we have to ask:

Make a $3 contribution to Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC to join our campaign to stop Donald Trump from ever becoming president.

Here's the truth: if Donald Trump is elected President of the United States, he has promised to roll back President Obama's executive actions to keep guns out of the wrong hands. He believes that more guns is the answer to mass shootings. And the violence and violent rhetoric he invites into his events sets a terrible tone for the country.

That's why this campaign, and your contribution, is so important. Because if WE stand together, we can stop Trump.

A Note from Mark (Kelly): We need to come to terms with the possibility that by the time the polls close in five Republican primaries later tonight, Donald Trump may very well have a lock on his Party's nomination.
Like so many Americans, I've watched with disappointment, the violence and violent rhetoric Donald Trump welcomes into his campaign events across the country. And I am reminded of the heated calls, emails, and visits Gabby received at her offices in 2010, shortly before her shooting.

And I was thinking about that as I watched the Democratic Town Hall on Sunday night, when one questioner said his family -- a family of legal immigrants -- was actually a bit scared of what a President Trump might mean for them. And that if Trump does get the nomination, the questioners top mission will be to stop him from ever ascending to the presidency.

I think many of us can identify with that sentiment. And that's why I have to ask:

Sign our petition pledging to do everything you can to stop Donald Trump from becoming president if he wins his party's nomination.

In Gabby's experience, and in my experience, pessimism has never solved a single problem. Dividing Americans against each other has never moved our country forward.

During her time as a Congresswoman, Gabby was known for bringing people together to solve problems. And that's because she knew that coming together to build bridges, to provide help and hope in times of need is what makes our nation great.

That's the philosophy that guides our new mission at Americans for Responsible Solutions. Because we believe we can appeal to the better angels of gun owners and non gun owners alike to come together to pass commonsense solutions that will make all of us safer.

But that will never happen under a President Trump, and it's why I have to ask you to add your name today:

Sign our petition pledging to do everything you can to stop Donald Trump from becoming president if he wins his party's nomination.

This is going to be a long campaign, and we're just getting started on our electoral work. But I can assure you, if Trump is the Republican nominee, we are going to do everything we can to protect the gun violence prevention gains we've made under the Obama Administration, particularly the executive actions Donald Trump has threatened to overturn on day one.

All my best,

Mark Kelly
