Seals

End Canada’s Seal Hunt.
Founded in 1969, the International Fund for Animal Welfare saves individual animals, animal populations and habitats all over the world. With projects in more than 40 countries, IFAW provides hands-on assistance to animals in need, whether it's dogs and cats, wildlife and livestock, or rescuing animals in the wake of disasters. We also advocate saving populations from cruelty and depletion, such as our campaign to end commercial whaling and seal hunts.

People around the world continue to say no to seal products, but the Canadian government stubbornly continues to try to sell these cruel products. It is fighting the EU ban at the WTO and trying to overturn the ban in Russia. The bans must be defended.

Tell Canada that the seal hunt must end and that you will defend your right to say no to cruelty.

A quick note to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper will help protect seals.

To: Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper
Canada is a great country, and rather than tarnishing its reputation to sell cruel seal products, I am asking you to protect seals and end the commercial seal hunt.
People around the world continue to say no to seal products. The Canadian government stubbornly continues trying to sell these cruel products by fighting the EU ban at the WTO and trying to overturn the ban in Russia. The bans must be defended.
Despite the Canadian government’s attempts to challenge the values and democratic principles of others, I reject seal products and will continue to defend my right to say no to them. My action, and the action of thousands of others from around the world, is causing markets for seal products to disappear—and the seal hunt is dying.
Please listen to the voices of people from around the world. Protect seals, and provide sealers with opportunities so they can get out of this dying industry. Celebrate seals as part of what makes Canada so beautiful. End the commercial seal hunt.
Sincerely,

Stop the Canadian Government's Plan to Kill Seals for Sex Potions.

A shocking report reveals that, in a desperate attempt to justify the killing of tens of thousands of gray seals, the government of Canada is considering spending more than $20 million in taxpayer dollars to develop markets for gray seal products. Among other things, the plan proposes grinding up seal carcasses to make hot dog–type products and marketing seal penises to Asian buyers.

There is no scientific evidence to support a seal cull and no markets for their products.

We should not be encouraging demand for the sex organs of wild animals or perpetuating the idea that consuming exotic animal parts has any beneficial impact on virility.

Sign the petition, and tell Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Gail Shea that you are outraged by the plan to cull gray seals, and ask them to oppose it unconditionally.

To: Stephen Harper, Canadian Prime Minister, and Gail Shea, Canadian Minister of Fisheries and Oceans

The Canadian press has reported that a federally commissioned report is calling for $20 million to be spent marketing gray seal meat, pelts, and other "parts"— including seal penises—to Asian markets.

I am outraged by this plan to kill gray seals and call on you to stand up for animals and stop this. Commercial seal hunting is not a viable industry, and a cull of gray seals is not supported by the current science. This is nothing more than a desperate attempt to appease fishers who claim seals are eating all the fish.

Further, selling seal penises to Asian markets encourages demand for other wildlife parts—such as tiger penises and rhino horns—that people mistakenly believe to improve health and virility. I am appalled that the government of Canada is perpetuating this belief by planning to market seal penis sex potions.

Sincerely,
