Injury Report 1/16: Rams have no injuries to report for first NFC Championship practice

The Rams’ injury report is completely clean for the beginning of the practice week for the NFC Championship game.

Los Angeles did hold a walk-thru rather than a full practice on Wednesday, but the club has no injuries to report regardless.

Head coach Sean McVay did say the Rams would be cautious with running back Todd Gurley, who played his first game since Week 15 last week against Dallas. But McVay added that L.A. would likely take that approach regardless.

“That’s just because of the workload he’s had. So he’ll take a similar workload as what he would whether he had the knee or not. And that’s just based on the way we’ve dealt with Todd, even going back to last year,” McVay said. “He felt good. He looked pretty explosive on some of those runs. It was great to get him out there. And I thought because we were able to get so many different carries off, it enabled both those backs to get into a rhythm. Those are positive problems where you’re able to do that.”

On the other side, the Saints will be without defensive lineman Sheldon Rankins after he suffered a torn achilles during the Divisional round victory. Rankins had the best season of his young career in 2018, recording 8.0 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and 15 quarterback hits in New Orleans’ defense. Saints head coach Sean Payton said dealing with that kind of injury at this stage of the season is difficult.

“It’s tough. You don’t want to lose a starter. We felt Sheldon’s had his best year this season, and he’s played a big part of us being in this game. So you get a pit in your stomach — you just hate to see an injury like that right when you’ve gotten to this stage of the year, I’m talking about for the player,” Payton said. “It just forces you to get the next guy ready, figure out what you want to do with your front, and fill in where need be.”

Rankins has been placed on injured reserve.
