How did our New Jersey lawmakers score?

SJ Gas Pipeline Decision Hangs in the Balance - Update: SJ Gas Pinelands Pipeline. We wanted to update you about the Board of Public Utilities public hearing that was held in Upper Township on Monday, October 19th concerning the South Jersey Gas pipeline.
Many people spoke out about the pipeline include the representatives from New Jersey's major environmental organizations - the Pinelands Preservation Alliance, New Jersey Conservation Foundation, Environment New Jersey, Clean Water Action and the Sierra Club were all there.

Our executive director, Carleton Montgomery, spoke out against the pipeline explaining that the pipeline route violates the Comprehensive Management Plan (CMP) for the Pinelands.

What happens next?  We are unsure.  Decisions are pending from the Board of Public Utilities and the Pinelands Commission. We are prepared to take action and we will keep you informed.

New Jersey communities deserve leaders who will help prevent flooding, keep pipelines away from our water supplies, and stand up to big polluters. We already know that Governor Christie isn’t doing enough to protect our drinking water and air – but where do your lawmakers stand?

Today you can find out if your elected officials are fighting to protect our environment for future generations – look them up on our 2015 Legislative Environmental Scorecard!

Unfortunately, the legislature isn’t doing enough to safeguard our natural resources.
  • Efforts to stack the commissions charged with protecting our water supply in the Pinelands and Highlands with anti-conservation members have gone unstopped by the Senate.
  • Both chambers passed laws eliminating the requirement to obtain voter approval before local municipalities can sell off water infrastructure to private companies.
  • The Legislature failed to reinstate New Jersey in the Regional Greenhouse Gases Initiative, putting coastal businesses and families face at risk as sea level continues to rise from climate change.
Every elected official is accountable to you – their constituents. Hold your lawmakers accountable for their votes by sharing their score with them and asking them to do better - or thanking them for protecting the environment if they are a champion.

This year, 13 legislators -- out of 120 -- scored more than 90 percent. Our goal is to keep turning lawmakers into environmental champions, and give those champs the support they need to fight bad bills and corporate polluters.

Our scorecard is one of our best tools to thank our lawmakers for doing the right thing. Find out if your elected officials are environmental champions, and then share our scorecard with them to say thank you for fighting for clean water, breathable air, and open spaces

Not sure who your represents you? You live in State Senate and State House district 6.

Working together we can reverse course and make the environment a priority once again.

Thank you for your continued support for and involvement in our important fight.
