URGENT ALERT: Ask Council Member Mendez to support the horse carriage ban

We need your help right now to help ban horse carriages. Manhattan Council Member Rosie Mendez supports the ban but hasn't yet signed on to be a cosponsor of Intro 573. Calling her office to say that you support the ban can win her over to become a cosponsor.

You'll probably speak to the Council Member's staff when you call. Tell them that you want Council Member Rosie Mendez to protect animals by strengthening her support for the horse carriage ban by cosponsoring Intro 573. Can you take 30 seconds and make a call now? Just dial 212-677-1077.

The horse carriage business subjects horses to incredibly horrific conditions. Just inches away from car and truck tailpipes, they breathe in polluted air and are in constant danger of a collision with Midtown traffic. They are forced to work long hours in the cold of winter and the heat of summer. Their drivers aren't doing much better, either. They don't even have basic health care benefits.

We know Council Member Mendez, like many of her colleagues in the City Council, already knows that. We just need to make sure she inspires her fellow council members to join her support of the ban on horse carriages by cosponsoring Intro 573.

And making a call is the single most helpful and effective action to hold Council Members to the promise they made in 2013 to protect horses and ban the carriage industry.

So will you give Council Member Rosie Mendez a call at 212-677-1077 right now?
Ask her to cosponsor Intro 573 and you'll be helping us take a big step towards protecting New York City's horses.

That'll make it clear just how important it is to pass Intro 573 and ban horse carriages.

9 Photos That Will Make You NEVER Ride in a Horse-Drawn Carriage.

One by one, cities around the world are banning horse-drawn carriages. This is why:

1. Because a horse isn’t meant to be stuck in traffic.

2. Because horses used to pull carriages are kept in places such as this when they’re not working.

3. Because sometimes cars crash into them.

4. Because horses don’t have airbags.

5. Because some horses, such as Jerry, just collapse and never get up.

6. Because Jerry didn’t deserve to be dragged away.
