SUSTAIN:GREEN JOINS THE SUSTAINABLE ACTION NETWORK TO FIGHT GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE

An environmentally responsible credit card provides an immediate opportunity to reduce your carbon footprint and fight global climate change.

The Sustainable Action Network (SAN) today announced an affiliation with the new socially responsible financial firm, Sustain:Green. Sustain:Green has introduced a no annual fee biodegradable credit card designed to empower card holders to make a meaningful contribution in the fight against climate change through their everyday purchases. As the Sustain:Green MasterCard® is used, cardholders automatically reduce their carbon footprint, while providing funding for Mato No Pieto, a rainforest preservation coalition.

Sustain:Green founder Arthur Newman combines a background in finance with an understanding of the science behind global climate change. Says Newman, “Catastrophic changes to the climate will result in dramatic environmental disruption. It’s real. It seems overwhelming, but collectively we can drive positive change.”

How it works

For any approved cardholder applying through Sustainable Action Network, Sustain:Green will eliminate 10,000 lbs. of CO2 as an immediate reward upon a cardholder’s first purchase – half on behalf of the cardholder and half on behalf of Sustainable Action Network. This is roughly equivalent to taking a car off of the road for a year, plus Sustain:Green will make a donation to The Sustainable Action Network. With continued use, Sustain:Green will eliminate 2 pounds of CO2 for every $1 in Net Merchandise Purchases, and provide added quarterly carbon reduction bonuses based upon usage. By simply using the card to buy groceries, a person could completely eliminate their carbon footprint. Upon receipt of the Sustain:Green MasterCard, members will have access to a personal carbon reduction web page to calculate and learn about their carbon footprint; set goals, track progress, and challenge others to reduce their carbon footprint. The website is dedicated to providing accepted scientific information to keep you informed and up-to-day on global climate change. The Sustain:Green MasterCard was created with the help of the non-profit American Carbon Registry, one of the leading global carbon offset registries, and issued by Commerce Bank.
