GREAT NEWS: Volkswagen Ends Experiments on Animals

Because of dedicated, compassionate supporters like you, Herbert Diess, the CEO of Volkswagen, has confirmed to PETA Germany that the company will never again use animals in testing unless explicitly required to do so by law.

Now, take action to urge others to follow suit and stop testing on animals immediately.

Pig Behind Bars
Last June, I reached out to Western Michigan officials to urge them to adopt nonanimal methods for training emergency medicine residents. I shared information on human-relevant training methods such as medical simulators, and we discussed them. At that time, the training program at Western Michigan involved cutting the skin and ligament of a pig’s eye, making incisions to insert tubes and needles into the animal’s throat and chest, and splitting open the breastbone in order to access the heart.

Then, last month, Western Michigan confirmed that they no longer use live animals.

This is an exciting victory for doctors, their patients, and animals!

Now, help us use this news to urge the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) to end its live animal lab.

While celebrating this victory, please ask MU to end its cruel animal labs too!

AAVS is celebrating the work of some special people on Animal Sanctuary Caregiver Day!
AAVS has supported sanctuaries caring for animals released from labs for over 35 years, and it’s always rewarding when we hear that the animals are becoming more confident, growing stronger, and adapting well to their new home.

But none of that could happen without the caregivers, the people the animals see every day, who get to know their individual needs and preferences, and help make the animals’ lives better.

It's no picnic. Long hours, physical labor, bad weather, and sometimes dangerous situations—caregivers deal with everything, and they do it with patience, dedication, and a lot of love. Caregivers truly are the unsung heroes of sanctuaries!

PETA has learned that Mercury Air Cargo, an air cargo ground handling company, is considering handling shipments to Los Angeles of monkeys destined for imprisonment and experimentation in laboratories in the U.S.
With your help, PETA has persuaded nearly every major airline in the world to stop transporting monkeys to laboratories, and it appears that Mercury may be one of the few companies willing to dirty its hands with this shameful trade. It has refused to answer our questions regarding its involvement in and policies on live-animal cargo.
