To Rescue or Not to Rescue? What to Do If You See Baby Rabbits, Squirrels, Birds, or Deer. In most cases, young wild animals should be left alone, as their parents are likely foraging for food nearby. However, when in doubt, please use these guidelines in order to determine if an animal needs help and, if so, what steps you should take.

Meet Stormie, a little girl who is in agony after being shot.

Rescue Dogs Rock was notified of Stormie’s condition by a Good Samaritan who saw her while out walking his own dogs. He took Stormie home and called for Rescue Dogs Rock’s help, caring for her until the volunteers arrived.

Stormie was shot in the leg then left for dead in an abandoned field. This poor little girl was screaming in pain when she was found, and without this Good Samaritan’s help, she would certainly not be alive today. The video of her injury is very graphic: view at your own risk. There is a huge, gaping hole in her leg from the gunshot, and every time poor Stormie tries to wag her tail, probably to say thank you to her rescuers, blood comes pouring out.
Stormie is a beautiful, friendly dog, who is desperately still trying to stand despite her injury. She is in utter agony, and now that she has been checked over, it is clear that she has been continuously bred. Can you imagine a lifetime of nothing but having puppies and then being taking out and shot when she was no longer of use? The sheer horror we feel at what has been done to Stormie we can’t convey here, or understand how a person could be so cruel.

Stormie now needs surgery. She has lost an incredible amount of blood, and it isn’t even certain yet that her leg can be saved. But Rescue Dogs Rock is committed to doing everything it is possible to do for this little girl. We wish you well, Stormie, and hope justice is served on those who have done this to you.

Horror stories about the way dogs are dumped and abandoned when their families no longer want them to continue to break our hearts. Throwing them away like trash when they don’t fit in with our lifestyles or have outlived their cute stage, or usefulness, is about the most horrific thing we as pet lovers can imagine. There are too many stories like Stormie’s in the world; we want to see justice for every one of them, and this wave of cruelty to end.

Rescue Dogs Rock‘s mission is to raise awareness of the ever-growing plight of homeless animals in this country, both in shelters and those dumped on our streets. If you are able to help Rescue Dogs Rock continue their incredible work to help dogs like Stormie, please consider making a donation. Image Source: Rescue Dogs Rock NYC

Here is a story brought to you by Southern Cross Animal Rescue (SCAR) about a tiny kitten who is desperate for our help. Little Quinn, with injuries to both her back legs, was found on Friday, trying to drag her way into Quinn’s Pharmacy in Laurel, Mississippi in search of help.

Quinn has been named after Quinn’s Pharmacy, who sponsor Southern Cross Animal Rescue‘s animal cruelty ribbon campaign and first took care of Quinn until Southern Cross Animal Rescue was called. She is currently at the Parkside Animal Hospital, where the staff has found that Quinn is going to need some surgery so she can make a full recovery. Her right leg has torn ligaments that will hopefully heal on their own, but her left leg is completely broken at the femur, and this poor little girl is going to need pins put in to help the healing process.

Southern Cross Animal Rescue is looking for donations towards the cost of Quinn’s surgery, which is estimated to be around $500. This little girl deserves all the love and affection she can get, and needs a second chance to have the life she hasn’t experienced so far. One she has this vital surgery we are sure she will be scooped up and adopted. Quinn, we wish you all the luck in the world!
Around eight million cats enter shelters across America every year, from tiny little things like Quinn to older cats in need of a forever home. Spaying and neutering are always important with our cats, but kittens like Quinn are already here and in need of our help. It is hard to look into the eyes of these defenseless animals and not want to give them a home ourselves.

Southern Cross Animal Rescue is a non-profit that focuses on the most desperate cases: animals starving in the streets, sick, mangy, or injured animals, and animals on death row in kill shelters. If you are able to help a kitten like Quinn or any of the other animals Southern work so tirelessly to rescue, then please consider making a donation. Image Source: Southern Cross Animal Rescue
