Animal Cruelty Weekly Report, Disneyland, HR 4879/HR 3599, The so-called "States' Rights Elimination Act," Dolce & Gabbana, John Galliano, Government officials in Marrakech & The London Marathon Is Just Days Away!

Many critical laws protecting animals, including those regulating factory farms and preventing the sale of dog and horse meat, are in danger.

Oppose dangerous federal legislation that would wipe out animal protection laws!

Representative Steve King (R-IA) is trying to pass HR 4879/HR 3599, the so-called "States' Rights Elimination Act," which would undo many of the legislative victories you've achieved for animal protection.
Take Action
Tell your legislators that you oppose HR 3599.

HR 4879/HR 3599 takes away your state’s ability to enact animal welfare laws protecting animals and consumers from food produced in unsafe conditions. Rep. King tried to pass similar legislation a few years ago, and animal advocates like you fought back. Congress needs to hear from you again.

Please take a few minutes to make a short, respectful phone call to your U.S. Representative and two U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121. When you call this number, the automated system will direct you to your legislators based on zip code.

"I am (name of legislator)'s constituent. I am calling to ask you to oppose HR 4879/HR 3599, sponsored by Representative King, and instead support legislation that protects animals.”

Tell Dolce & Gabbana that fur isn't trendy, it's cruel. They must get with the new trend and go fur-free!

The latest fashion trend is hitting Milan, London, and New York all at once and it is making animal lovers very happy. Some of the largest fashion houses in the world, from Armani and Gucci to Kors and Klein, have publicly pledged that they are going #furfree.

But even in this day and age, companies are still abusing and slaughtering foxes and other animals for fashion. While there has been progress in ending the fur industry, some companies still refuse to let it go. One of the largest fashion houses in the world, Dolce and Gabbana (D&G), still seems to be willing to put their label on this fading trend.

The fur industry for fashion isn't glamorous, it's inhumane.

It's no secret that in order to make "elegant" fur coats and shawls, animals are subjected to horrific abuses. For example, despite laws protecting animals against abuses in Finland, fox fur farmers fatten their animals so much that the poor foxes' pelts bunch up in rolls and make it nearly impossible for the foxes to see or even walk. In Poland, undercover footage revealed the true horror of the fur industry by shining a light on foxes kept in dark metal cages. Some were even missing eyes or had rotting jaws.

Let's tell D&G that fur-free is the new black! Please sign this petition demanding that D&G commit to going fur-free and auction off remaining fur items with proceeds going to animal rights organizations.
Vogue's Forces Of Fashion Conference
Just this week, another huge designer, John Galliano, has gone fur-free. Fashion houses are hearing our calls.

ohn Galliano has stories to tell. One of them includes a fateful swim with Penélope Cruz. It was that event in Saint-Tropez, France, which has apparently inspired the Maison Margiela design head to go fur-free, following in the wake of Gucci, Versace, and Michael Kors.
The designer, who has made a comeback ever since returning to fashion at Margiela following his anti-Semitic remarks and subsequent trial, spoke about the instance in a new interview with French Elle that PETA shared. As he was frolicking in the water with Cruz, Galliano randomly met PETA senior vice president Dan Mathews, who opened his mind up to going fur-free. “One summer, I was swimming in the sea with Penélope Cruz in Saint-Tropez,” Galliano said. “And just then, Dan’s face popped out of the water. It was like in Jaws, very frightening!”

It wasn't just Matthews who inspired Galliano to rally for animal rights, though: It was also his dog Gipsy, who's popped up on the designer's Instagram before. “He is part of the therapy that I started in Arizona,” Galliano revealed, “The idea is to take care of someone else, to get out of my egocentrism. My life is more balanced.” In fact, the designer’s initial conversion to vegetarianism wasn’t about animals at all, he said: “I really became a vegetarian in order to get in better shape. I play sports, I take care of myself and I've never been more clear-eyed. The energy that I get from having fewer toxins in my body is extraordinary. The pressure in the fashion industry is the same, but now I know how to step away and meditate, and my life has gone from black to white!”

While Galliano is just now announcing his commitment to go fur-free, it's been a while since the designer showed fur on the runway, outside of feathers, as Vogue notes. “[The real luxury today] is authenticity and inventiveness,” he said, providing one explanation for why he's started turning away from fur. “You can be outrageous and fun without fur! Come and party with us, you’ll see!”

Captive monkeys are abused in horrifying ways in front of tourists. Help save the monkeys now!
The Moroccan city of Marrakech is known for its sprawling markets, gorgeous architecture, and rich spices. What you might not know about it is that it's also the site of ongoing cruelty toward helpless monkeys that are held in chains to entertain tourists.

These monkeys aren't going to be freed without our help. Please sign the petition to send these animals to a sanctuary now.

One Care2 member was horrified when she went on a trip to Marrakech recently. While she was there, she saw trapped monkeys, bound by tight metal collars around their necks and forced to perform tricks. Tourists have witnessed handlers dragging monkeys along the ground on their backs, ignoring the animals' cries of pain.

One man even punched a monkey in the face before throwing it into a cage. Other men force the monkeys to fight each other in gruesome battles, just for photo opportunities.

Please join me in urging the government of Morocco to stop this animal abuse and send the captive monkeys to a sanctuary. These beautiful and intelligent animals are suffering and deserve better — they desperately need you to speak up for them.

These monkeys have been kidnapped from their families in the wild and are subjected to hell on a daily basis. But it doesn't have to be this way. We need to speak out together if we want this cruel mistreatment to end.

YouTube footage from 2015 shows this torturous treatment of the monkey.

These monkeys are kidnapped from their families in the wild for the purposes of entertaining tourists. They are now dependent upon their human handlers and perform out of terrified. Disneyland, Stop Using Horse-Drawn Streetcars Now! Forcing horses to pull heavy loads is extremely cruel, yet Disneyland does it every day when it sends horses carrying streetcars filled with people down Main St. U.S.A. The attraction has been part of Disneyland since the theme park first opened, but the time has come to shut it down.

Horses are sensitive animals who become skittish around crowds and noise. Disneyland has to train its horses for months so they learn to remain calm amidst the chaos of the theme park. Horses are taken into corrals and bombarded with stimuli in order to teach them not to react. To learn patience, horses are forced to stand still while tied to a pole. But just because a horse can learn how to not physically react to stress, it doesn't mean it isn't experiencing stress.

Disneyland's horses are treated better than many other carriage horses -- working shorter hours and getting to live on a ranch during off-hours -- but the fact is, more and more people agree that animals should no longer be used for entertainment. Forcing animals to perform unnatural tasks and training them to not react to stress is just plain cruel.

Horses may be a huge part of Disneyland's history, but they don't have to be part Disneyland's future.

My name is Andres, and I'm committed to raising £20,000 to help animals by running in the 2018 London Marathon to benefit PETA.

Andres Munch Message: In the lead-up to my marathon run, kind donations from PETA supporters like you have already helped me raise £12,600. I'm truly grateful to all the generous people who have made a special contribution. But I'm still behind my target of £20,000, and I want to raise even more money for the animals who so desperately need our help.

Please make a special marathon-sponsorship gift today so that PETA can help even more animals in need.

When I lace up my running shoes early on Sunday morning and then take the first few steps of that 26.2-mile race, I'll be improving so much more than my health. With help from compassionate people like you, I'll be improving animals' lives.

The importance of PETA's work, which I'm supporting through my run, can't be overstated.

Your sponsorship of my run will help PETA prevent the suffering of countless animals on massive fur farms and inspire consumers not to buy clothing and accessories made with fur and animal skins.

Your sponsorship of my run will help PETA shine a spotlight on the millions of mice, rabbits, and other animals condemned to be killed in laboratory experiments each year.

Your sponsorship of my run will help power PETA's work to expose and stop the misery that animal abusers work desperately to hide.

So please, join me today and support my marathon run for animals.

Thank you for your compassion and generosity. I promise that come Sunday morning, I'll run my heart out!

Kind regards,

Andres Munch
