“The Last Three” Northern White Rhinos in Kenya

Astor Place in New York City has become home to a special sculpture that represents the last living members of a species that has been nearly wiped off the face of the earth thanks to poaching. The Northern White Rhino is extinct in the wild and only three individuals remain alive in captivity. “The Last Three,” a sculpture of the three survivors, was created by Australian artists Gillie and Marc Schattner, and it aims to draw attention to the plight of the species.

The 17-foot bronze sculpture was officially unveiled on March 15th. Gillie and Marc Schattner, celebrated artists whose works have been installed all around the world, are especially dedicated to conservation and their art “pays homage to the magnificence of the natural world, and the importance of preserving it.”

Exactly 12 months after first meeting the last three Northern White Rhinos in Kenya, we have installed their memorial in @astorplacenyc 🗽 The tallest rhino sculpture in the world is a memorial to their lives and marks the day where the world finally decides to end rhino poaching forever. We spent 4 hours last night in -2 degrees installing the 8 tonne bronze sculpture. The offical unveiling will be tomorrow open to the public at 9am at Astor Place. We would love you all to come if you can and please go to www.goodbyerhinos.org to leave your message and download that App 'Inde' to enjoy the augmented reality experience where you can view the actual rhinos walking around. Save the Northern White Rhino From Extinction! Sudan, the world's last male northern white rhino, has died. The 45-year-old rhino had been living in Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya, where a team of veterinarians were treating him for age-related ailments and infections before finally deciding to euthanize him. The devastating loss leaves just two female northern white rhinos left - and many wondering what the fate of the species will be.

The situation is dire, but they're not extinct yet. Please sign this petition to save the northern white rhino!

Northern white rhinos used to roam across East and Central Africa in large numbers, but they're population has diminished over the years. They've been particularly vulnerable to poaching, habitat loss, and strife in the area. Everything must be done to protect the two remaining northern white females -- Fatu and Najin, Sudan's daughter and granddaughter. Thankfully, they are both in good health, but we must now protect them from the many threats that have nearly wiped out the species.

According to reports, there may also be ways to still increase northern white rhino numbers. These efforts must be explored and carried out as long as they can be done humanely.

Save the northern white rhino from extinction by signing this petition!
