It’s the USDA’s job under the law to conduct routine, unannounced inspections of the animals and conditions at certain federally licensed animal facilities. But now the agency is suggesting someone else could do the job, opening up the door to non-governmental, self-interested trade groups to take over this critical function. Under this bad proposal, the USDA could allow for-profit businesses that often exploit and exhibit animals, including puppy mills, research labs and zoos, to essentially police and “inspect” themselves. It sounds like a joke, but it’s not.
This would be a disaster for the animals living in these facilities. These third-party companies have no authority or accountability, meaning more of America’s most vulnerable animals will be left to suffer in silence at the hands of the federal agency meant to protect them. We must stop this from happening. |

The USDA is hosting a public comment period on this issue right now, and your voice is needed to make sure this proposal is rejected. Please visit ASPCA.org right now to submit a comment to the USDA telling the agency to do its job and protect the animals under its authority. This is just the latest in a string of instances of the USDA putting corporate interests ahead of animal welfare. Enough is enough. We only have until March 21 to make our voices heard, so please speak up today. |

A small country with a big animal cruelty problem. Animal cruelty even in paradise. Sign to ask Monaco to stop using animals in circuses. The city-state of Monaco is known for having one of the highest standards of living in the world. But some of its residents might not agree. Monaco is home to the International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo where clowns perform tricks, spectators ooh and ahh and wild animals are forced to perform tricks against their
will.
This is especially true now that more countries are banning the practice. In fact, Scotland and Italy just banned the practice last year, and Wales and England are also considering similar policies.
Animals are not entertainment. They have their own will and desires and deserve to live a life free from cruelty — preferably in the wild where they belong. Circuses, magic shows and aquarium spectacles that use live animals are reducing living, breathing beings to objects that can be forced to do as we want, when we want. It's not only cruel, it's wrong.
Molly’s new herd is helping so much. We’re doing everything we can to save Molly. Luckily, we have some help. The other orphans have taken Molly under their wing and are comforting and guiding her.
Molly is a sweet young calf from Zimbabwe whose mother was shot right in front of her. The trauma of that could have killed her – but her gentle spirit survived. Yet that was just the beginning of her problems.
Dehydration, life-threatening intestinal problems, and kidney failure all plagued this grieving orphan when we found her... we had to act fast!
Molly was flown to Zimbabwe Elephant Nursery (aka ZEN) where our staff immediately went to work saving her life.
Those early days were heartbreaking – as she paced in small circles – trying to cope with the trauma she had just suffered through.
You can help provide the IV fluids she needs, the special formula she is fed, and the care that her Keepers provide for her around-the-clock – even sleeping next to her to provide the companionship she needs.
Elephants suffer so much cruelty. We believe that every elephant matters – and every elephant deserves to live naturally and in peace.

Justice for Racing Horse Left to Be Consumed Alive by
Maggots. After
running 62 races and earning his "owners" a quarter million dollars, racehorse
Dr. Drip was finally "retired" in Opelousas, Louisiana. He deserved a herd of
friends and a lush pasture to enjoy his true glory days. Instead, at only 13
years of age, Dr. Drip was covered in bloody raw saddle sores and abscesses, and
coughing blood. He was being consumed from the inside out by maggots. His
neglect was so severe that he had to be euthanized to end his torment of being
eaten alive. Jermaine Dwayne Doucet Jr. was arrested on a felony animal cruelty
charge and his bond was set at $5,000, yet nothing has happened since the
arrest. We must demand justice for Dr. Drip! TAKE

the Runway made the compassionate choice to ditch fur—joining Giorgio

retailer Pendleton Woolen Mills, Inc., continues to sell items made from rabbit,
fox, and coyote fur, despite knowing that animals are beaten, electrocuted,
shot, and sometimes even skinned alive in the fur trade.
