Week #11 of the hunts and captures of dolphins off the coast of Taiji, Japan was a horrible one. The Weekly update from #TheCove: Big payday with first capture of bottlenose dolphins in week #10 of Taiji's hunts.

Melon headed whales, a species new to the quota list, were driven into the Cove for the first time this season.

Although many members of the original pod escaped during the drive process, an unfortunate group of 32 melon headed whales were netted into the Cove. Among the group were several mom and calf pairs. Sheer panic ensued as divers jumped in and wrestled dolphins under the tarps. Dolphins got tangled in the net and a young calf was seen thrashing on the rocks in extreme panic. 6 dolphins were selected for a “life” in captivity. 12 had their lives extinguished and their lifeless bodies dragged to the butcher house. The remaining 14 melon headed whales were later driven out to sea. Some were injured, all were traumatized.

No way to know how many will survive. Please share their story and spread awareness about the undeniable link between the captive dolphin industry and the dolphin slaughters here.
