The Green
Climate Fund is an exciting new initiative to help people and communities
around the world deal with the effects of climate change. Already, the fund is
helping ensure access to clean drinking water, develop solar power, and improve
infrastructure to keep people safe when extreme weather hits.
But
the U.S. needs to step up to its commitment to this fund.
The
U.S. is one of 42 nations that has promised support for this independent fund.
Just two months ago, the U.S. made its first payment on the promise. As Congress
decides how to spend money in the upcoming year, it’s important that they make
fully supporting the Green Climate Fund a priority.
Today,
I’m on Capitol Hill visiting offices with our partners in the faith community in
support of the Green Climate Fund. Members are making decisions now about what
funding they’ll work for. It’s important that they hear your support for this
international effort to help vulnerable people adapt to the results we’re
already seeing from climate change. Thank you for taking action
today.
