Justice for Chunky - stop people who abuse animals from owning ever again.
This petition is for Chunky the Chihuahua who was attacked for hours in what the RSPCA called one of the most disturbing cases of animal abuse they had ever seen. Chunky was, over a period of hours, beaten and drugged, his neck was broken, he was set on fire and finally he was dumped and left for dead.

Despite serious injury, and against all odds, Chunky lived. The people who committed this abuse were only banned from keeping animals for five years. As an animal lover, who once owned a dog just like Chunky, I found this story highly upsetting. What shocked me is that these abusers and others like them will be able to own an animal again one day. There’s nothing to prevent them doing this again.

I'm asking that anyone who abuses animals, regardless of their age, be placed on an Animal Cruelty Register which would follow them for life. In some states in the US they already have animal abuse registries. If this had happened in New York these abusers would have to sign onto an animal abuse list that would prevent them from ownership of animals. The UK need to introduce a similar law. A five year ban is not sufficient-- it is hard to implement in practice and why do we assume abusers attitudes will have changed after a few years? Our legal system should have an animal abuse list so that we are aware of people who have mistreated animals.

Please sign this petition for an animal abuse register. Let's get justice for dogs like Chunky.

This petition will be delivered to: Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative PartyDavid Cameron MPRead the letter - Sign The Petition!

Urge Retailer Patricia Nash to End Fur Sales.
Why would anyone want to accessorize with real fur that comes from animals who have been caged and denied everything that is natural and important to them—before being gassed to death, anally electrocuted, or worse? Retailer Patricia Nash, who sells her designs at Macy's, Dillard's, and Nordstrom, continues to market handbags and accessories cruelly made with real fur, despite hearing from PETA about how animals are horrifically abused for it.
fox on fur farm
Every year, farmers use the cheapest killing methods available, including neck-breaking, suffocation, poisoning, and genital electrocution—and on many fur farms, animals are still alive and struggling when they are hung by their legs or tails and skinned. Workers stomp on the necks of animals who struggle and then peel the skin and fur over the animals' heads, often while they are still alive and conscious, before throwing them onto a pile of bodies. Some animals are still alive—panting in ragged gasps—for as long as 10 minutes after they've been skinned. Eva Mendes narrates this video about the rampant abuse inside fur farms today, which is where 85 percent of the world's fur comes from.

By selling handbags and accessories made with fur, Patricia Nash is complicit in the abuse of these intelligent, sensitive, gentle beings. Make sure the company knows it by sending a letter via the form and pledging not to purchase from the retailer until it ends all fur sales permanently.

Justice for Disabled Dog Killed By Police.
rottweiler-by-Rodolfo Araiza G
Target: Chief Allen Banks, Round Rock Police Department
Goal: Punish officers for allegedly killing a non-threatening disabled dog.
The Round Rock Police Department is responsible for the death of an old, disabled companion dog, Bullet, according to a suit filed by Russell Lane, Jr. He was an eight-year-old Rottweiler whom Lane had taken in as a puppy. Officers stated that the dog had charged them and the use of lethal force was necessary, but forensic evidence would later contradict their claim.
Officers were responding to an alarm when they entered Lane’s residence and began sweeping his house for intruders and threats. It was not until they had reached the back bedroom that they would encounter Bullet and fire upon him five times. The officers reported that this action was justifiable as self defense.
An autopsy later revealed that the aged Rottweiler suffered from moderate to severe hip dysplasia which would inhibit Bullet from charging as the officers had claimed. Furthermore, the veterinarian revealed that the last three bullet wounds indicated that Bullet was fleeing when he died. Lane commented, “Is he going to turn into Cujo in the hallway if he never even met you at the front door?”
The alarm to Lane’s home was triggered, but there was a posted sign next to the door which clearly stated the presence of a Rottweiler inside. A life could have been spared if officers had taken reasonable measures and precautions when they entered the residence. Sign this petition and demand that the Round Rock Police require nonlethal force when handling dogs from this point on.
Dear Mr. Banks,
A dog named Bullet recently passed away as the result of your officers responding to an alarm at a private residence. The officers reported that Bullet had charged at them and this justified the use of lethal force. An autopsy later indicated that the dog was incapable of charging and that he was running away while being fired upon. The dog’s owner also had a sign clearly posted near his front door that warned of Bullet’s presence.
It is simply not enough to train your law enforcement officers on how to deal effectively and safely with dogs. The officers must enact this training. Please set an example for law enforcement and make a stand for dogs all over the United States by requiring your officers to use nonlethal deterrents when handling canines.
Sincerely,

TripAdvisor Inc. is profiting from cruelty to wild animals. Demand that they stop promoting and selling tickets to cruel wildlife tourist attractions today.
TripAdvisor Inc. is profiting from wildlife exploitation. With its 2015 income reaching almost $1.5 billion, TripAdvisor Inc.’s influence on the tourism industry is immense. But it is choosing to profit from the horrific abuse of wild animals in tourist entertainment rather than help protect them.

Our investigations reveal that TripAdvisor is profiting through the sale of tickets to venues that force wild animals to entertain tourists. It sells these tickets through Viator, a travel and tour booking company it acquired in 2014.

Last year The University of Oxford reviewed 188 wildlife venues featured on TripAdvisor and found that 75% of the different types of attractions involve wildlife cruelty. TripAdvisor’s Viator sells tickets for a number of these exact types of attractions. We have approached TripAdvisor on numerous occasions but they have been reluctant to work with us and are failing to take action to protect wild animals.
Last year, nearly 175,000 of you signed our petition to tell travel company Thomas Cook Group to end their sale and promotion of elephant rides and shows. They listened and removed elephant rides and shows from their promotional materials, proving the power we can generate to move global companies together. Help us reach TripAdvisor and demand they end their support of the cruel wildlife entertainment industry.

Promoting cruelty to wildlife
It’s not just TripAdvisor Inc.’s Viator sales that support cruel wildlife entertainment. TripAdvisor awards some cruel wildlife entertainment venues their Certificate of Excellence and ranks them in a Popularity Index. Their Popularity Index and Certificate of Excellence instil trust in tourists, but in many cases this trust is misplaced. TripAdvisor uses an algorithm to determine which venues to award. They have the power to change this algorithm. TripAdvisor states they are just a platform for tourists to share opinions and do not provide any form of endorsement, but their ticket sales, Popularity Index ranking and Certificate of Excellence scheme all contribute to the promotion of these cruel attractions.

TripAdvisor are continuing the sad cycle of wildlife cruelty by promoting cruel attractions. They should award positive wildlife venues instead.

“Elephants were tied to the railings, beaten with hammer like objects in the head if they didn’t perform as instructed…” – TripAdvisor user review, 2015.

The tragic picture this review paints isn’t a one-off. It’s a reality for up to 550,000 wild animals. Elephants, lions, tigers, monkeys, dolphins and many more species are taken from their mothers when young, beaten, kept on chains or in very small enclosures.

Sign our petition above and demand TripAdvisor helps give wild animals the lives they deserve.

The future of wildlife is in TripAdvisor’s hands

TripAdvisor is the world’s largest travel site. A positive change at its level of the supply chain could ensure a bright, happy future for hundreds of thousands of wild animals.
Instead of promoting and profiting from cruel wildlife tourist attractions, we want to help TripAdvisor celebrate those that benefit the lives of wild animals, such as genuine sanctuaries or responsible wildlife watching venues. TripAdvisor already awards its GreenLeaders stamp of approval to eco-friendly accommodation companies. We propose they do the same for positive wildlife experiences by rewarding them with the title WildlifeLeaders.

TripAdvisor needs to help tourists make informed decisions. The WildlifeLeaders program would help end the cycle of wild animal abuse and create a cruelty-free future for tourism.

But the first step is to stop them promoting and profiting from cruelty. Sign the petition and tell TripAdvisor to do the right thing. The world’s cruelest attractions >

Image of a Beleaguered Working Horse Begs the Question of Why Carriage Rides Still Exist.
To many people, horse carriage rides are the epitome of elegance and grace: a gentle reminder of a simpler, more slow-paced era. After all, what could be more romantic than taking in the sights of a new city the old-fashioned way? Sadly, the reality behind horse carriage rides is not always so romantic. In places such as New York City, Rome, London, or Melbourne, where this mode of transport has prevailed for many years, the defense of “tradition” is often used to downplay members of the public’s concerns about horse and human safety.

Many people recognize that a crowded, noisy city is not the healthiest environment for a horse. Far from it, as a matter of fact: in New York City, many horses have caused accidents or fatally injured themselves after becoming spooked by unexpected incidents or veering out of their intended lane. NYPD records from October 2009 to April 2014 revealed that twenty-five accidents took place during that time frame only, with at least twelve of these being described as “hit-and-run” incidents (in which the driver allegedly fled the scene) by animal welfare groups. The current NYC mayor Bill de Blasio has promised to end the practice but has taken little action on this pledge since he assumed office in 2014.

The reality is, horses don’t belong on the hard asphalt pavement of the city streets, and they suffer immeasurably being forced to work day in and day out pulling people. Common veterinary issues witnessed in carriage horses include muscle and back pain (acquired by the effort of pulling carriages for much of the day), skin irritation and rashes (often associated with the heat and humidity of working in a busy city), hoof deterioration, and tack-related pressure sores and skin ulcers. In cities around the world, wherever horses are used to transport tourists through the busy streets, these animals are deprived of the chance to live the kind of lives that nature intended: where they are free to relax, play and roam as they choose, free from the threat of human interference and exploitation.

A Twitter user recently drew attention to this issue by posting a picture, which shows a clearly dispirited horse waiting for her next work assignment in Rome.
This Sad Image of a Horse and Buggy Reminds us There is No Need to Use These Animals for Transportation
On Twitter, Matthew Dominguez said, “Seeing her so unhappy today in Rome broke my heart. No animal deserves to be abused for our leisure.”

The use of horse-drawn carriages for transport may have been required before the advent of motorized vehicles. However, forcing these animals to work in modern-day cities – where they must contend with damaging exhaust fumes, loud noises, oncoming vehicles, and high temperatures – cannot be regarded as anything more than an unnecessary throwback to a bygone era. A large array of alternative transportation methods are available to present-day urban dwellers – including planet-friendly electric vehicles – so why put these animals through the turmoil of working in an overcrowded city? Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages After Yet Another Accident.
Horse-Drawn_Carriageby-adam-jones
Target: Denis Coderre, Mayor of Montreal
Goal: Stop unnecessary injuries to horses and humans by banning outdated and cruel horse-drawn carriage rides.
Calls to ban horse-drawn carriage rides in Old Montreal have been renewed after the latest accident, in which a horse got away from its owner and was injured in traffic. The horse was struck by a car in the street and fell to its knees in the middle of an intersection. This is only one of many examples of carriage accidents in the city. Just last year, a photo went viral on social media of a Montreal carriage horse experiencing extreme distress after falling on a metal plate in the street.
The carriage industry forces horses to carry oversized carriages in harsh weather and busy traffic conditions. The horses work long hours every day, oftentimes without adequate time to rest, eat, and drink. Horses have fallen over due to heat stroke and dehydration, injured themselves and humans in collisions with vehicles and pedestrians, and even dropped dead in the streets due to exhaustion. They can suffer longtime health effects, including respiratory diseases and debilitating leg problems.
The carriage industry is cruel and outdated, and puts profit and entertainment before the welfare of sentient beings. With modern technology, many alternatives to live horses exist, including vintage-looking electric carriages. In order to prevent further injuries to both horses and humans, Montreal must move to a more modern alternative. Sign the petition below to ask the city to ban barbaric and antiquated horse-drawn carriages.
Dear Mayor Coderre,
The latest horse-drawn carriage accident saw a horse get away from its owner and run amok in the streets. It eventually fell to its knees after being struck by a motorist. Unfortunately, these types of accidents are commonplace in the carriage industry. Just last year, a Montreal carriage horse fell on a metal plate in the street and injured itself.
Carriage horses are forced to work long days in all kinds of weather. They have been injured in traffic collisions, collapsed due to heat stroke, and even died of exhaustion while working. Survivors of the carriage industry suffer lung ailments from constant inhalation of traffic exhaust as well as leg problems from the hard cement.
The carriage industry is cruel and antiquated. In order to ensure the safety of both horses and humans, it must be ended immediately. We, the undersigned, as that you ban horse-drawn carriages from the streets of Montreal.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]

We have a long way to go, but don't give up, we can never give up. Those animals need our support and voices to tell the Government that we want change NOW!

Thank you for your support.

About This Petition
Animals are being abused, neglected, tortured and killed all across Canada at an alarming rate. The laws are not tough enough on the criminals who do these atrocious acts to innocent lives. Animal protection and welfare laws should be enforced in ALL areas of Canada, specifically remote communities & unorganized territories.

SAVE DOGS FROM A CRUEL DEATH.
As you read this, there are dogs in Asia being tortured then slaughtered for their meat. Soi Dog urgently needs money to rescue them, repair their broken bodies, and help find them loving homes. Please donate a few dollars a month to help them.
Some dogs, like Topaz (pictured above), are pets stolen from private homes. Others have been rounded up from the streets for illegal transfer to Vietnam and China for butchering.

Learn how you can help dogs like Topaz from Soi Dog Ambassador Will Young England's famous singer, songwriter and actor.

Special thanks to our friends Environment Films for donating their time, expertise and for producing this film.

The dogs are packed cruelly into overcrowded cages, often injured and in excruciating pain. They are transported for days without food or water, often dying from the heat. Those who survive are inhumanely slaughtered, often skinned or boiled alive in the mistaken belief that this enhances the flavour of the meat.

Will you please help rescue these dogs?

Fill out the form now, and save dogs from the barbaric dog meat trade.

HOW PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE HELPING
Just a few dollars a week from you will go a long way in Thailand, where Soi Dog is based. By working with local authorities, and with the help of kind supporters from all over the world, Soi Dog has made important breakthroughs.

The dog meat trade is now illegal here and tens of thousands of dogs have been rescued, and given veterinary care and shelter. But there is so much more to be done, and we need more caring supporters to help do it. Will you be one of them please? Fill out the donation form now to save dogs from terrible cruelty.

Right now, there are anti-cruelty laws in all 50 states and the District of Columbia that are designed to protect animals from abuse and neglect. The unfortunate truth, is that due to the volume of cases, prosecutors don’t always have time to pursue these crimes. Even if they do, the sentences never seem to reflect the magnitude of the crime.
Charlie wearing his service gear
Please join us in strengthening laws that protect animals--and providing tools and assistance to prosecutors nationwide, to ensure crimes against animals are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

In Oregon, a service dog named Charlie -- looking for his owner, Navy combat veteran Juan Ramos -- stepped into a neighbor’s yard following Juan’s scent. He was shot in the head with a .22 magnum rifle and killed.

This senseless act of cruelty ended the life of a gentle companion, and robbed an American hero of his service dog.

Help the Animal Legal Defense Fund make sure perpetrators of crimes against animals are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and help us fight for stronger legal protections for all innocent animals.

Two years ago, the Animal Legal Defense Fund took action to bring our nation its first dedicated, full-time animal cruelty prosecutor -- and it’s his job to put animal abusers like Charlie’s killer on trial.

This prosecutor worked tirelessly to bring the strongest possible charges against Charlie’s killer and make sure he received a tough sentence: two years of probation, two years in which he may not have contact with animals, and five years in which he is prohibited from being in possession of any domestic animals.

We still don’t believe this sentence is nearly enough for a crime of this magnitude.

That’s why we need to keep fighting for stronger laws and sentencing that recognize animals as living creatures – not mere “property.” Together, we can make sure the people who harm or kill innocent animals like Charlie will get the severe punishments they deserve.

Please join us in strengthening laws that protect animals--and providing tools and assistance to prosecutors nationwide, to ensure crimes against animals are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Your tax-deductible gift today will go a long way in keeping animals safe.

About This Petition
A concerned group of citizens have started the "Stop Animal ViolencE" (SAVE)  Foundation to protect the pack animals in Havasupai from abuse. These horses and mules travel from Hualapi Hilltop to Havasu Falls daily, and there have been an overwhelming number of reports of rampant and heinous animal abuse.

We are calling on the Havasupai Tribal Council to establish a minimum standard of care for all horses and mules living in Supai, AZ. Until it is confirmed that these standards have been adopted and implemented, we will boycott trips to the Havasu Falls that use horses and mules.

This treatment that has been witnessed by many tourists around the world is nothing short of horrifying and violent for both animals and humans. SAVE has collected first-hand accounts of extreme animal abuse and neglect by specific violent people. Recently, a Havasupai man was charged with four counts of animal abuse.

We are turning to you, the public, to help these defenseless animals. We are committed to the cessation of violence against animals by these violent individuals. Please help us in putting a stop to this violence and bringing about not only healing for these peaceful, deserving animals, but with your signature, change.

Do you feel pain and agony seeing this photo and imagining the terror of these horses? We have eyewitness accounts of these horses being punched, kicked, pushed off the sides of mountains when injured, starved to death, without water and rest for long periods of time. It's a death camp for pack animals.

So, please, reach into your pain and feel the ferocity of compassion well up in your heart. And then take action. Sign this petition to demand that the Havasupai Tribal Council adopt SAVE's guidelines for a minimum standard of care for these horses and mules. For you, for me, for the earth and for all the inhabitants who will suffer if this abuse continues. Please "Like" and share us on Facebook here. To read about this in the media visit here.

Canada Wants To Sell Seal Penises
New Yorkers React To Ostrich Protesting Prada

Read the Powerful Message From Ricky Gervais, Inspired by This Photo of a Broken Bear in Captivity. Despite the many justifications put forth by the animal captivity industries, ranging from conservation arguments to educational ones, the fact of the matter is that a life spent in captivity is far from beneficial to the animals involved. When placed in a captive environment, animals of all species have been known to display symptoms of physical and psychological distress not witnessed in wild animals. These symptoms, known as stereotypic behaviors, can include restless pacing, excessive grooming, head-wobbling, swaying from side to side, self-mutilation, and unpredictable outbreaks of aggression.

The animals’ natural instincts to travel, seek out their own food, find a mate, and spend their lives alongside family members are suppressed while in captivity. This can have very serious impacts on their health – for example, an estimated 40 percent of captive elephants are obese due to the lack of exercise and stimulation they receive in their enclosures. A 2014 study published in the PLOSone science journal found that certain skull bones do not appear to form correctly in a high proportion of captive lions, leaving those lions vulnerable to brain damage and fatal illnesses. Dolphins’ natural communication methods are disrupted. A heartbreaking video recently emerged showing a captive orca in Loro Parque, Spain, desperately struggling to escape his tiny tank.

When a famous face speaks up on behalf of these animals, their message is amplified by the renown in which they are held by their fans and the general public. This has often been the case with comedian Ricky Gervais, who  has previously spoken out against a wide range of animal protection issues, including trophy hunting, cosmetics testing, and dog meat consumption. He has also admitted to being very moved by videos of animals in distress, saying, “‘Laboratory animals see sunlight for the first time,’ or ‘elephant mourns his best friend the goat.’ I watch something like that every day and I’m always in pieces.”

The heartbreaking picture below, which Gervais recently posted on his Facebook page, is bound to leave any animal lover in pieces too.
Ricky Gervais Posts Incredibly Touching Image of a Bear Expressing the Pain of Captivity
He shared the image of this suffering captive bear along with the caption: “Bullfighting. Enslaving dolphins. Skinning dogs alive. Bile farming. We certainly are the cruelest animal on Earth.” With these heart-wrenching words, he accurately expressed the feelings of many animal lovers who are appalled by the cruelty that we so often inflict on the other species who share this planet with us. To learn more about why captivity is anything but fun for the animals involved, and why you should never buy a ticket to a zoo, marine park or other facility that holds captive animals, read the posts below.
