WATCH: Grammy-winning Band La Santa Cecilia Performs & Discusses the Message Behind Their Music

http://democracynow.org - We speak with three members of the Mexican-American, Grammy Award-winning band La Santa Cecilia, named after the patron saint of music. The band formed in 2007 in Los Angeles. When they won the Grammy for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album in 2014, they dedicated the award to "the more than 11 million undocumented people that live and work really hard in this country and that still need to lead a more dignified life."

La Santa Cecilia performs a number of their songs in the Democracy Now! studio, including "Nunca Más (Never Again)," off their new album "Buenaventura," and their rendition of "Strawberry Fields Forever," a tribute to migrant workers. We also speak with La Santa Cecilia’s lead singer, Marisol "La Marisoul" Hernandez; percussionist, Miguel "Oso" Ramirez; and Jose "Pepe" Carlos, who plays accordion and requinto.

http://democracynow.org - Belgium has entered its second day of mourning following Tuesday’s bombing attack targeting the Brussels Airport and a crowded subway station near the headquarters of the European Union that killed at least 31 people and injured over 230. The bombings took place just days after authorities arrested Salah Abdeslam, a suspect in the November Paris attacks that killed 130 people. In response to Tuesday’s attacks in Brussels, Texas Senator Ted Cruz said, "We need to empower law enforcement to patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized." Republican front-runner Donald Trump called for "closing up" U.S. borders and doubled down on his vow to bring back waterboarding and other forms of torture. And Hillary Clinton asked for Silicon Valley’s help, calling for "an intelligence surge" to help track online activity. We spoke to them after Michigan Republican Governor Rick Snyder testified for the first time before Congress about lead poisoning in the water supply of Flint, Michigan, which began after he appointed an unelected emergency manager who switched the source of the city’s drinking water to the corrosive Flint River. Snyder testified along with EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy and Flint’s former emergency manager, Darnell Earley, who refused to appear at last month’s hearing despite a subpoena from the U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Melissa Mays is an activist and founder of Water You Fighting For?, a Flint, Michigan-based research and advocacy organization founded around the city’s water crisis.

Many Americans trace the modern conservation movement back to President Theodore Roosevelt, known for his love of the outdoors and for creating the U.S. Forest Service and the national parks system.

But what if government isn’t the only, or the best, entity to protect America’s natural wonders?

The American Prairie Reserve is a nonprofit group that wants to establish the largest nature reserve in the lower 48 states and it aims to do so with private funding. So far, American Prairie Reserve owns or leases more than 300,000 acres with a goal of stitching together 3.5 million acres of private and federal land across to create a reserve 1.5 times the size of Yellowstone National Park. And they believe that their unique approach will reduce the tension with local ranchers and farmers that national parks often experience.

These two babies were brought in to us, one in the morning and the second one in the afternoon of the same day, after being found soaking wet in a stream. Not knowing where their earth was in the built up area around the stream, we couldn't put them back to their family and had no choice but to keep them with us.

After staying with one of our volunteer orphan feeders for a few days, the cubs are now back at the centre to enjoy a pen made just for them, where they can play and run around as they will! We put their carrier box in the pen, to let them explore their new surroundings at their own pace, but soon enough they were out of the box and sniffing around their new home for the next few weeks!
