Yummy, Dog Meat!

China: Cruel Dog Meat Trade: This poor dog has been beaten and probably already stabbed, judging by the pool of blood by it’s hind legs. China has a very brutal dog meat trade where dogs are stabbed, often in the stomach or genitals – not to kill them outright.

As they lay on the ground writhing in pain, the dog’s are often smashed in the belly area with a bat, as a man stands on the dog’s hind legs. After a minute or so, the dogs are usually stabbed again, in the belly area – the knife is usually plunged in and deliberately twisted before removing it. The pain must be unfathomable!
From this point on, whether the dog is still alive or not, the dogs are either boiled or skinned – although critically injured, often the dogs are still alive.
ALL OF THE ABOVE IS DELIBERATE. The more pain that the dog or cat experiences, up until the moment of death, floods the animals’ body with adrenaline. This guarantees the meat will be tough. Customers demand tough meat because they FALSELY believe tough meat boots a man’s libido.
Tying a dog up like this is a particularly cruel thing to do to a dog. Worse still is the way the front legs are used as handles to carry the dog – causing the dog’s shoulders to dislocate, leaving the dog in agony. Usually the dog will also have it’s mouth bound tightly shut, leaving it unable to scream out in pain.
China has a growing number of animal rescuers who work hard to expose the pet meat trade within China. Fight Dog Meat supports these rescuers and we will continue to expose China and its ongoing brutality, as well as highlighting it’s many animal lovers.

I am disappointed to see that despite the Philippines strengthening the existing laws against animal cruelty, maltreatment and neglect, dog meat is still being eaten throughout the Philippines in the southern, central and northern parts of the country, as well as the Filipino dog meat trade still active in the north.
Pet dogs are stolen from people's houses and stray dogs are taken from the streets. Because most of the dogs are not vaccinated, stolen pet dogs and street dogs are being transported together, which poses serious health threats for the spread of diseases such as rabies, cholera and trichinellosis.
Such risk also severely compromises the Philippines commitment to eradicate rabies by the year 2020.
The treatment of dogs and cats in the Philippines has notoriously been very cruel and corrupt, which cast a negative light on the Philippines positive reputation as nation of beauty and kindness.
Decades ago, Filipino dog meat was only eaten on solemn religious occasions and those dogs were not brutalized or tortured, prior to, or during slaughter. The modern day treatment of dog meat dogs-and-cats is inhumane, barbaric and places local residents and international tourists in danger of acute food-borne viruses.
We echo's the Filipino Meat Inspection Service's statement: "Dogs, cats and other pets are not food."
We respectfully ask that the President of the Philippines:
- Implement existing laws against animal cruelty, maltreatment and neglect.
- Implement existing laws to halt the abuse of "ritual" dog slaughter and stop the dog meat trade.
- Provide funding for trap, neuter and release programs to prevent street dogs and cats from breeding.
- Implement laws to make owners responsible for their dogs, to prohibit dogs loitering on streets.
- All dogs and cats to be vaccinated against rabies.

Are You Wearing Dog Skin?

In Defense of Animals
As the dog meat trade persists throughout Asia, the horror stretches far beyond those borders. While the flesh of dogs is consumed in places such as China, South Korea and Vietnam, the skin of these dogs is sent all over the world. That’s right. If you wear leather, you could be wearing the skin of a dog right now.

A recent story out of China shone the light on this serious, but little known issue as passersby stumbled upon hundreds of dog skins set out to dry under a bridge in Hefei, Anhui province. The scene is beyond horrific, as it is the aftermath of the torture and slaughter each dog endured before having his or her flesh sold to restaurants for humans to consume. This is also only one of thousands of similar scenes throughout Asia.

This horror knows no bounds as such dog skins are then turned into various leather items, such as gloves, belts and bags, and exported throughout the world. Such products are often mislabeled or not labeled, leading consumers to unknowingly purchase products they would otherwise adamantly avoid. Since the United States imports many leather goods, such products have undoubtedly made their way into our stores and, if you purchase leather, your home. Click here to read more and take action.

DONATIONS: Fight Dog Meat does NOT accept donations.

WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND the wonderful animal rescue people at Vietnam Animal Welfare Organization (VAWO), who not only save animals, including dog meat dogs and cats, but also run a Veterinarian Training School to teach local vets how to humanely practice medicine on pets within Vietnam. It is custom that many local Vietnamese vets do NOT USE ANESTHETIC ON DOGS AND CATS DURING OPEN SURGERY!
VAWO urgently need financial help! if you are thinking of donating to an animal organization, I urge you to please consider these wonderful people. Receipts will be issued. Please take a look at their website: http://vnanimalwelfare.org/take-action/
