COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 8/7 Maryland men’s basketball team welcomes No. 3/4 Iowa for a pivotal Big Ten matchup on Thursday at 7 p.m. at XFINITY Center.

Storylines
Melo Trimble scored 24 points and Robert Carter added 13 as Maryland fell at Michigan State, 74-62, Saturday night at the Breslin Center. Trimble now has six games with 20 or more points this season.

• No. 3 Iowa at No. 8 Maryland will mark the first time XFINITY Center will host a matchup between a pair of top-10 ranked teams. The XFINITY Center opened in 2002-03. Maryland has a 9-29 overall record and an 8-10 mark at home against teams ranked No. 3 in the nation. Maryland’s last win against a third-ranked team was at home against North Carolina in 2008-09.

• Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon led the Terrapins to a 20-5 record through their first 25 Big Ten games, becoming the fastest Big Ten coach to reach 20 conference wins since former Illinois mentor Bruce Weber guided the Illini to 20 wins in his first 23 games at the helm during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons.

• Sophomore Melo Trimble and freshman Diamond Stone were named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Midseason Watch Lists for the Oscar Robertson Trophy and the Wayman Tisdale Award, respectively, on Monday. Trimble leads the Terps in scoring (14.4 ppg), assists (5.6 apg), steals (25) and free throw percentage (.870). Stone is averaging a team-high 16.1 points per game in conference play for the Terps and boasts three double-doubles in Big Ten play.

• Maryland is 9-0 following a loss the past two seasons. The last time the Terps lost back-to-back games was against Syracuse and Clemson on Feb. 24 and March 2, respectively, in the 2013-14 campaign.



Scouting Iowa
• Iowa defeated Purdue, 83-71, its last time out on Sunday. The Hawkeyes are the lone undefeated team in Big Ten play with a 7-0 record.

• Jared Uthoff leads Iowa offensively, averaging a league-best 18.9 points per game while adding 6.2 boards per outing. Peter Jok is the only other Hawkeye posting double-figure scoring per game, notching 14.7 ppg.

• The all-time series is knotted up at 2-2 with Iowa winning the last two matchups, including a victory in the NIT semifinals in 2013. The Hawkeyes won the lone meeting between the two programs as members of the Big Ten Conference a year ago.

Maryland Athletics is encouraging all fans to arrive early for Thursday’s Big Ten men’s basketball game between No. 8 Maryland and No. 3 Iowa. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., at XFINITY Center.


As a result of the recent snow storm, a number of parking lots will have less spots available. Late arriving fans, with proper parking permits, may be asked to park in an adjacent lot (11B) should an overflow occur.
