- Following a
vigorous PETA campaign that included more than 100,000 protest e-mails,
countless critical social media posts, scathing media stories, and phone-call
blitzes to the company's U.S. offices, Kikkoman—the most popular soy
sauce company in the U.S. and Japan—ended its long-standing practice of
experimenting on animals.
- After the Virginia
Racing Commission denied a request to hold races at Colonial Downs, track owners announced that they would
redevelop the land for nonracing activities.
- After PETA pointed
out to Uber that today's socially conscious millennials are opposed to killing
and skinning cows for environmentally unfriendly leather car interiors,
the company removed the leather requirement for
UberBLACK cars in all five markets where it was required.
- Earlier this year, PETA released a shocking exposé of the stabbing, shooting, and mutilation of live pigs by Deployment Medicine International (DMI), the self-proclaimed "largest trainer of US military forces in operational medicine." Now, following PETA's campaign, the U.S. government banned DMI from receiving any contracts for the next 15 years.
And, we’re closing the books on
2015 in less than three short weeks.
December is critically
important to the financial health of our organization. As a nonprofit,
PFAW depends on a strong final month for a significant amount of our support on
the whole year.
We REALLY need our members
stepping up at this time of year to make sure we have the resources we need to
defeat the Right Wing and protect Americans’ fundamental rights that are
constantly under attack.
Even with the most
obstructionist Congress in history and an overwhelming number of state
legislatures controlled by the Far Right, here are just some of the victories in
2015 you helped achieve with your support for
PFAW:
- We scored important ballot initiative victories against Big Money in politics in Maine and Seattle on Election Day 2015 and, even more recently than that, helped stop an effort in Connecticut to undermine the state’s public financing of elections.
- We stopped a partisan scheme in Michigan to rig the Electoral College and award half or more of that blue state’s electoral votes to the Republican presidential candidate in 2016.
- We helped create a national backlash against “Right to Discriminate” bills that hijacked and distorted religious freedom in Indiana and other places, and defeated them in several state legislatures.
- We won an incredibly important State Senate race in Virginia and built vital infrastructure in perhaps the most critical region of a key 2016 swing state, particularly among Latino voters.
- Our affiliate PFAW Foundation made amazing strides in mobilizing African American voter turnout in the Louisiana state elections.
And work we’ve done on
judicial nominations, an executive order to force more disclosure in election
spending, and other initiatives looks like it’s about to yield important
progress in early 2016, if not before the end of this year.
You can make a
difference. We can win victories. We ARE winning
victories.
But we need your help
to keep it up … and to win the ultimate victories in 2016 by KEEPING the White
House, TAKING BACK the Senate, and SAVING the Supreme Court from being packed
with more extreme right-wing justices.
If everyone receiving this
message gave just $1 we'd hit our year-end goal of $316,846 in a day.
THANK YOU for standing
with PFAW in 2015 and for the historic election year to come.
