Great News regarding Grace!

Update on Grace in NJ: Great News! On September 1, 2015, NJ Fish and Wildlife darted Grace with a tranquilizer, and sheared off the arrow.

Last May, SHARK discovered that a deer in Marlboro, NJ, had been shot in the face by a bowhunter, and that she had been living with the arrow impaled in her face since last November. Our investigator found the deer, who we named Grace, filmed her, and we took her plight to the media in order to get her help.

Getting hit in the face with something always hurts, but can you imagine being impaled by an arrow? Marlboro, NJ deer Grace certainly can imagine. This poor deer was shot by a bow-hunter who sorely missed and hit her in the face. Unable to call for help, Grace continued to live with that arrow lodged into her nose since November of 2014. Luckily, SHARK (Showing Animals Respect and Kindness) caught wind of her plight and set out to contact the regional Fish and Wildlife Service to inquire if they would help the animal.
SHARK learned that NJ Fish and Wildlife Services had attempted to tranquilize Grace in the past but failed and they were unable to make a second attempt because Grace was pregnant! Sadly, Grace would have to endure the pain of having the arrow in her snout until she safely birthed her little one.

The good news is, Grace gave birth in July and has been diligently caring for her baby through it all. There’s something to the resilience of animals!

Fish and Wildlife Services have promised that they will try to remove the arrow from Grace’s nose again in early September of this year.

To make sure this happen, take action and contact Dave Chanda, the Director of New Jersey Fish and Wildlife.

This video updates her situation - including that she has given birth - and how we hope she will soon receive the medical care she needs.

Please contact the Director of NJ Fish and Wildlife and ask that they follow through and save Grace.
