Devon is a lab who was found on a road by Fort Bend County Animal Control, with a broken paw and a gunshot wound. Veterinarians determined she'd been dragged behind a car.

Rescue group "Save A Lab" partnered with Fort Bend County's "Saving Our Companion Animals" program, and sprang into action, getting her the care she needed through a clinic, along with a foster home. When Devon's forever home in Atlanta was found, more volunteers jumped in to help out.

“Social media has been very helpful in helping us come together quickly on behalf of a dog especially in an emergency,” said Michelle Sharp, of “Save A Lab.”

An organization called "Pilots and Paws" found a pilot from the group "Hank’s Flights," who provided a free flight, and off Devon went, to Atlanta.

“We would not be able to move Devon to her new home, if we did not have their support and generosity to get her there,” said Barbara Vass, of Fort Bend’s “Saving Our Companion Animals.”

Lucy and Sean were called out to rescue a badger cub that seemed to be stuck between two fences. In fact, he wasn't really stuck, he was just lying there, extremely thin, weak and exhausted. We suspect something happened to his mum and he was struggling on his own.

Back at the hospital, we checked him over. Except for a few fly eggs, he had no injuries. We gave him some "gloop" (a special formula of our own invention, for animals in convalescence), which is liquefied, tasty and easy to lap. It didn't take too long before he dived into the bowl and ate his fill!

After some intensive care and feeding, he perked up and went from strength to strength! He has now joined our group of orphaned badger cubs, which will be released this autumn!

Lucky Duckling Gets Rescued From Factory Farm and Adopted by Kind Mother Hen.

From trapped in a duckling production factory with no way out to living on a farm with a new adopted mamma, this baby duckling is the luckiest duckling on the planet.

On Imgur, the boyfriend of the woman who saved the duckling explains that the little duck was saved from the French factory-farming facility where his girlfriend worked. She had taken the job temporarily to help pay for a plane ticket. The facility was about as horrible as one could imagine and her main task was to laser cut duckling’s beaks and vaccinate them for mass production. According to the Imgur user who uploaded the story, his girlfriend’s coworkers had been entirely desensitized by the experience and some even killed the ducks for fun.

Everything changed, however, when this woman came across a ducking who had escaped from the facility and was found waddling around the parking lot outside. Seeing her chance to do something kind for one of these poor creatures, she scooped him up and brought him home.

This sweet duckling was very lucky to find a compassionate home. According to Imgur, the woman who saved the duck lives in the countryside of France of and has a number of chickens who live freely on her land. The duck would fit right in with its new feathered friends.

One of them is a true mother hen who loves nothing more than to nurture others. So, she thought this chicken would make a great foster mom for the new little duckling.
Duckling's Mom

This duckling’s story is a cogent one. It draws attention to the plight and suffering of millions of ducks who are made to suffer and are killed every year for their flesh. In France, where foie gras, or duck liver, is considered a cultural delicacy, the cruelty endured by these intelligent and sensitive birds is overlooked in the name of refined taste. This duckling’s mother was assuredly one of the 31 million ducks killed all over the world every year for their flesh — leaving this poor, sweet baby an orphan. Thankfully, this sweet baby will never have to know a life of pain or suffering and will be well cared for by his new foster mom and human caretaker.

For at least one factory-farmed duckling headed for a grisly death, the future is brighter with a new mom and a new home.

If we could all learn to look upon animals with the same compassion and kindness, the world would be a much happier place. Enjoy your new life, ducky! All image source: Imgur

Amazing Man and His Dog Rescue Dejected Pup Who Was Buried Alive. When we go out on a walk with our beloved pooches, we usually don’t expect to find another dog in a desperate, life-or-death situation. However, this was exactly what happened to French man Pedro Dinis and a friend as they walked through their local park in Carrieres-sur-Seine, Paris, last week.

During their walk, the friends saw a French Mastiff on the ground and initially thought that the dog was just voluntarily lying there. On closer inspection, however, they saw that the dog had in fact been buried alive, with her head just about visible above the ground. Pedro said, “her head was difficult to see because of the quantity of earth which covered her.” It is chilling to think of how easily her plight could have gone unnoticed…

Pedro and his friend were greeted by this heartbreaking sight.

The dog’s lead, which had been tightly tied to a heavy bag of gravel, had prevented her from escaping.

As the rescue effort got underway, Pedro’s own canine companion was on hand to offer comfort and solidarity.

Though she was exhausted, the brave dog – perhaps emboldened by the appearance of her helpers – continued her attempt to free herself from the rubble.

She required a whole lot of coaxing from her human (and canine) helpers.

Pedro’s dog had to provide her with an encouraging push or two…

… but this plucky canine was eventually freed from the rubble! Pedro immediately gave her some water and TLC.

She was in shock and dehydrated, so after Pedro had given her some water, he took her to a vet, where she was able to begin the slow process of recovering from her ordeal.

The police later tracked down the dog’s guardian, who denied the allegation of having buried her alive. However, he is now expected to be charged with animal cruelty. If so, he will be sent to prison for two years and could be forced to pay a fine of up to €30,000 (approximately $33,117). An online petition calling for the “maximum sentence for the owner” has garnered over 135,000 signatures.

While stories of horrendous animal cruelty can make an animal lover lose all faith in humanity, it is kind people like Pedro and his friend who restore that hope.

Sweet Video of Rescued Farm Animals Snuggled Up Shows Us Why Sanctuaries are so Important.

Farmed animals are among some of the most abused animals on the planet. Despite the fact that animals like pigs, cows, and sheep possess all the same abilities to comprehend complex situations and feel a broad array of emotions as a dog and cat, for some reason, most people don’t see them as equals. Unfortunately, this translates into humans regarding these sentient beings as little more than commodities or “food.” One need only look at the rampant cruelty of a modern factory farm to understand this.

But not everyone views farmed animals in this way. Just take the kind people at Edgar’s Mission Farm Sanctuary, for example. Rather than seeing them as “different” from dogs and cats, this organization believes that all animals deserve the right to a happy, healthy life free from harm. By sharing the stories and images of the animals who live in their care, this amazing sanctuary is slowly but surely getting others to look at farm animals differently.

After all, when you see a picture of a rescued piglet frolicking with such glee through an open field or a flock of rescued lambs dressed up in sweaters contently snuggled up for bed, you can’t help but to stop and think that maybe they’re no different from the other animals in your life.

We need farm sanctuaries like Edgar’s to help us all think a little differently about how we view the other creatures around us. Only then can we truly understand how to extend our circle of compassion.
