Amazing cat rescue: Man has his Mercedes dismantled to free trapped pussy - TomoNews
Cat lovers rejoice, there’s hope for humanity yet.

On Mother’s Day this young man - let’s call him Joe - aged 27, decided to go out cruising in his Mercedes Benz.

Joe said he stopped his car when he saw two young teenagers looking up into a tree along the side of a bridge. He stopped to offer assistance. The two teenagers told him there was a kitten stuck up in the tree.

Joe then climbed up into the tree to rescue the kitten, but the cat darted away from him and fell out of the tree into the river beneath. Joe climbed down from the tree and then jumped into the slow moving river to save the kitten from drowning.

Unfortunately, the panicked and now completely soaked kitten ran from its rescuers, climbing up inside the engine of Joe’s Mercedes to hide. No matter what the three did, they couldn’t convince the kitten to come out.

So Joe had his beloved motor towed to the nearest dealership so that the professionals could dismantle the engine and retrieve the poor kitty. The kitten was then dried off and fed before Joe took it to a veterinarian.

The vet gave the kitten a clean bill of health and said it was probably only 6 months old.

When asked about all the time and effort Joe put into rescuing one kitten he just shrugged and said the real effort would be convincing his girlfriend to let him keep it.

Maybe he can just tell her it followed him home?

The Story of 5-month-old Pit puppy Jax who recovered from a life threatening, vicious dog attack believed to be from illegal dog fighting.

Orphaned Baby Otter Rescued by Amazing Dog Walkers
A father and son were out walking their dog along a riverbank when they heard squeals from a small animal, according to The Daily Mail. What they found was adorable, but in desperate need of their help.

The kind dog walkers approached the riverbank and found a six-week-old wild otter cub which they named “Otto.” Otter cubs are largely dependent on their mothers for care, so the father and son decided to contact a local wildlife rescue for help.

The wildlife experts were unable to find the otter’s mother and Otto had to be taken into the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre for care. This tiny cub will spend about a year in their care until he’s ready to splash back into the wild.

“We don’t know whether something has happened to mum or if he has gone on a bit of an adventure on his own, but when he came in he had been off his mother’s milk for some time,” Krista Langley, head of the Wildlife Haven, told The Daily Mail.

When his rescuers first found the small otter, he was underweight, severely dehydrated and exhausted. The cub had been separated from his mother, and was left to fend for himself. The Wildlife Centre said he would stay with them for about a year until he’s big enough to be released. Watch him play with a stuffed animal that’s bigger than he is! Aww, good luck, little guy!

Animals Rescued from Cruelty in Mexico City.

Over 30 dogs and 18 Cats were reported as abandoned in a house in Mexico City. They were left there since their rescuer was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Humane Society International, along with local groups and concerned people, achieved to enter the house to help the animals. The scenario was even worst than expected.

Baby orangutan Udin is fighting to survive.

Our team are currently working round-the-clock to care for a tiny orangutan called Udin. He has already suffered so much in his short life, that he had lost the will to live.

He was kept as a pet, locked up in a small, dark cage with nothing and no one to comfort him. By the time our team rescued him, Udin showed no interest in his surroundings and would not even look at the rescuers trying to save his life. He was severely malnourished and dehydrated but had no desire to eat or drink. His mind and body were detaching from the world around him and he was slowly giving up on life.

But our team refused to let little Udin die, they have stayed with him round-the-clock and even sleep on the floor beside him so that they can comfort him during the dark hours of the night. Finally, he has started to respond. He is showing an interest in food and there is a glimmer of light in his sad dark eyes.

Udin faces a long road ahead and he won’t survive without us, but at least now we all dare hope that eventually he will recover.

Please give what you can today, to support the ongoing care of baby Udin and to help us save others like him, before it’s too late – Thank you.

Hit By a Car, 2 Broken Legs, Broken Hip
Emma was homeless and a car hit her. Before she came to me she was operated on by an emergency veterinarian to repair an immediately life threatening injury. She had a diaphragmatic hernia, where a hole in the muscle that normally separates the lungs from the abdominal contents allowed her intestines to be pushed up into her chest, severely restricting her breathing. Afterwards the hospital quoted the foster family $2000 to amputate her rear leg and fix her front leg. The foster family could not afford that so she was given to us. Here's her story.

Dog With Horrific Injuries From an Embedded Choke Collar Finds a Forever Home!

Right before Christmas, the Trio Animal Foundation, TAF, was called into an emergency rescue vet after hearing about a stray dog in a terrible situation. The dog had a choke collar deeply embedded under his arm, neck and shoulder. It was so far embedded that you could no longer see it around his neck. The vets had to cut the chain off in pieces to pull it out from under the skin that had grown over it.

If it weren’t for TAF and the amazing veterinarians, this poor boy would not have survived. The infected sections on the rescued dog were so terrible they had to be debrided to remove as much of the dead tissue and infection as possible. We simply cannot understand how a human could have subjected a dog to so much pain and suffering, but he was certainly in good hands with TAF and the rescue vet team. The group of rescuers named the dog Kringle and this abused pup was set on the long road to recovery.

Kringle had to have a drain placed in his chest to help get rid of excess fluid and was given stitches that ran all the way from his armpit up to his side. His recovery would be painful, but it was clear to volunteers and staff that this was an affectionate, happy and loving dog. After a week at the vet recovering, Kringle was brought back to TAR to recuperate. It was not long before everyone fell in love with his adorable demeanor.

It is exactly this personality that helped Kringle find his forever home! TAR announced on their Facebook page that Kringle not only made a full recovery, but he found a loving family to spend his life with. His new mom and dad love everything about this brave boy, and Kringle is going to have the life he definitely deserves!

When TAR was called in to meet Kringle, his injuries were extensive.

Dog With Horrific Injuries From an Embedded Choke Collar Finds a Forever Home!

When most people adopt a dog, they’re in it for the long haul. They recognize that by bringing this new life into their own, they are responsible for the care and well-being of this animal. While it can be challenging and time-consuming to house train a new pet and teach them how to walk on a leash, most people are happy to do it because at the end of the day, they love nothing in this world more than their dog.

Or so this is the way that we hope most people feel about their pets, however, many times this is not the case.

There are over 70 million homeless cats and dogs currently living in the U.S. While some of these animals were born to feral packs, many were simply abandoned by their guardians and left to fend for themselves. Only around six to eight million stray cats and dogs find their way into the shelter system and a small fraction of those that do end up in forever homes. Although the majority of these animals will never get their happy ending, those that do are completely changed for the better. Luckily, this was the case for Echo the Great Dane.

Echo’s guardian first saw her future best friend online in a Facebook post. The poor white puppy was extremely thin and deaf, she had been abandoned by her previous caretaker because she was “too much to deal with.”

Echo was purchased from a backyard breeder when she was far too young to be separated from her mother. After this trauma, Echo was subjected to abuse, neglect and unimaginable horrors in the care of the woman who purchased her. But all of this ended when she was rescued by Louisiana Great Dane Rescue and then adopted into her new forever home.

One year later, Echo’s new guardian wrote an open letter to the woman who cared for this pup before she did. Here is what she had to say:

To the girl that “had to get rid of” the nameless and “useless, not able to deal with” puppy with a belly full of rocks a year ago: Thank you for giving her to rescue instead of putting her down like you had threatened in your Facebook post. I just want you to know that she’s safe, although I doubt that you care. Because you didn’t care that she was hungry or thirsty. Didn’t care that she was filthy. Didn’t care that she was deaf. You did care that she was a free puppy and took her home from the BYB who is just as guilty as you are.

Did you comfort her when she cried the first night she was away from her mother and siblings? Did you hold and pet her when she got scared in her new “home”? I like to think that you did do at least that for her. I don’t know if it was you or her “breeder” who decided to spay her at 6/7 weeks old. But I want you to know that she doesn’t seem to have suffered any damage from that surgery at a way too early age.

She is only alive because of the Louisiana Great Dane Rescue that always keeps an eye out for dogs that are discarded like her. And we are happy that they chose us to adopt Echo. See, that’s what we named her. We figured even though she is deaf she deserves a name, just like any other pet or person… Do you know that she knows a bunch of ASL signs that we use to communicate with her? I doubt you even still think of her anymore. She gets three meals a day and it took me a long time to get her to trust me that there will ALWAYS be another meal and that she doesn’t have to eat rocks and other things she found outside. And that she doesn’t have to try and drink as much water until she got sick because there would always be more water later.

Yes, she is very spoiled and may not always “listen” to me when I tell her to do something but she sure couldn’t be any more loved. She is my heart dog and every person and dog that meets her loves her immediately. I am working with her on therapy dog training to get her registered as a Therapy Dog so I can take her to all kinds of places where she can bring love and joy to people in need of just that. I just wanted you to know that she’s safe and loved, even though you will probably never get to read these words.

We are so glad that Echo finally gets to enjoy the life that she’s always deserved. A big thank you to the kind woman who adopted this sweet pup!

Twice Attacked Dog Meets New Family for the First Time

When PETA's fieldworkers first saw Russell, he could barely muster the strength to lift his head. The 17-pound terrier mix had been attacked by stray dogs after being left outside in his unfenced yard overnight. After two days without proper treatment, an infection had set in, and Russell was fading fast.

This wasn't his first brush with death. Last December, his owner had called PETA after he had been severely bitten by another free-roaming dog. PETA helped pay for his veterinary care, and his owner promised us that the little dog would never be left outside alone again.

But just a few months later, Russell was attacked again. We rushed him to a veterinarian, who cleaned out his wounds, inserted two drainage tubes to help eradicate the infection, and prescribed antibiotics and pain medication.

Within a week, Russell had been surrendered to PETA and was on the road to recovery. But what about his emotional scars? Would he be afraid of other dogs after being attacked not once but twice?

This was vital to know because a retired couple was eager to adopt him but they had three other rescued dogs—and Russell would have to get along with them. Two PETA fieldworkers drove Russell to his prospective new home. How would he react to the other dogs?

First, he was introduced to an imposing Lab mix named Eddie. Both dogs' tails wagged furiously, and Eddie was so excited about his new little brother that he did a couple of victory laps around the yard. What did Russell do? After he met all three dogs and his new human guardians, he "christened" the fence. Yep, this is his home now.

Russell was attacked twice while outside and alone. Treasure your dogs as family members and keep them safe. Let them live indoors with you.

Angry, Mistrustful Rescued Elephant Finds Peace and Friendship in Her New Home.

Whenever an imperiled animal is taken out of their abusive situation – and finds love, care, and consideration in a reputable sanctuary – this is naturally regarded as a cause for celebration. However, what many people don’t realize is that even after they have been successfully transferred to their new home, that in itself is often only half the battle. Many new sanctuary residents, like baby orangutan Udin, continue to be weak, ill, or emotionally traumatized for quite some time after their arrival.

This was the case for Faa Sai, the young female elephant whose amazing story of hope and redemption will warm your heart. As soon as she came to live with the amazing team of staff and volunteers at the Elephant Nature Park (ENP), Thailand, her carers realized that they had quite a challenge on their hands.

This is a picture of Faa Sai on the day of her arrival at ENP. As you can see, she was tired, upset, and most likely felt that she would never trust another human again.

ENP staff said, “(When she) first arrived at ENP she was so aggressive and angry. On the day she arrived at our place, we took off the chain and let her legs free, but she seemed to think her legs were still chained. She did not walk as normal but she put her front legs together and jumped and walked like her legs were tied up.”

Little by little, however, this plucky girl was able to rediscover the simple delights of life: playtime, rolling in the mud, waving her trunk around…

She also began to open up to receiving love and companionship from her fellow elephants. According to her carers, “the herd and elephant nannies (were able to) help her forget her bad history.”

9 Extremely Matted Poodles Finally Get the Care They Deserve Thanks to Rescuers. Matt Southcott spotted what he thought was a pile of rags on the side of the road and didn’t think much of it. However, he soon realized that the pile wasn’t made of rags at all, but rather was a group of extremely matted dogs. There were nine dogs, who were later identified as poodles, in total who had been dumped in a ditch near Winchester in Hampshire County, UK.

“I couldn’t tell if they were sheep or dogs. You couldn’t see their faces,” he said to The Daily Mail. “They looked so badly matted and injured. I have never seen an animal in that state.”

The group was made up of a mother, named Sian, and her eight puppies who vets estimate are around one year old. While the guardian of these abandoned dogs has not been identified, it is clear that these pups have been given very little care. Poodles have extremely curly hair that is prone to matting if it is not kept short or properly groomed.

Each poodle was given a long grooming. It took over three hours to shave each dog and poor Sian had to be sedated to undergo the process.

“She had stones trapped between her paw pads which had obviously been there for some time. It is disgusting. I have never seen a dog in this condition before,” said rescuer, Martha Edward.

After all the matted hair was removed, it was clear that the dogs were extremely underweight and malnourished.

Animal welfare experts believe that that dogs had been kept in “unlivable” conditions for their entire lives before being abandoned. This allowed them to reach the horrific state they were in. Thankfully an investigation to find the person who did this to these animals in underway. The RSPCA are asking for help in finding the person responsible.

When Matt Southcott first saw the dogs, he thought they were piles of rags.

After Surviving Extreme Abuse and Starvation, Cowboy the Horse Finds Sanctuary. It has been said that the eyes of an animal are like a window to the soul.  This is especially true of a horse named Cowboy.

Arriving at Penny Lane Farm Sanctuary, the first resident you will be greeted by is Cowboy.  Sweet and gentle by nature, Cowboy thrives on human companionship – he loves it.  Always welcoming to new visitors and accepting of kind scratches, he has become the star attraction at the sanctuary.  Life for Cowboy has not always been so carefree, so happy.  His past is one of darkness and torment, one that needs to be brought to light.

Free to a Good Home
We have all seen the advertisements on Craigslist, classifieds and even Facebook – “free to a good home.”  These are examples of people in desperate need to re-home their once beloved horse, willing to give it away for free, trusting that it will find a “good” home and happy ending.  Sadly, in today’s cruel world, this can be an open invitation to the worst kind of predator – the animal abuser.  We like to think that it is beyond human nature to inflict pain and suffering upon another living being, especially an animal, but reality tells us this is not the case.

Through no fault of his own, Cowboy found himself in search of a new home, his owners no longer able to care for him as they once had.  Instead of finding a safe place to call home, he ended up in a place of pure nightmares, along with two other horses and dozens of other farm animals.  Starvation and physical torture were all he knew for months.
Cowboy enjoying the sanctuary life
Cowboy enjoying the sanctuary life
After countless reports from the local community, the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) finally investigated the situation. What they found was horrifying and beyond words – one of the worst cases of animal abuse, hoarding and neglect in the last 20 years.  The surviving animals were rescued; the abusers only charged a mere $50,000 fine with no restrictions on ever owning more animals – a “get out of jail” for free card, a slap on the wrist.  Cowboy suffered the worst of it and was in dire need of medical attention.  The torture he endured not only left emotional scars but also inflicted severe physical injuries. He faced a long road to recovery.  He would spend nearly a year in veterinary care and rehabilitation.

A Call for Adoption
Since Cowboy was deemed as “un-rideable,” interest in him was nonexistent. He had no use, no purpose.  Finding his forever home appeared to be getting further and further out of reach. Despite all that he went through, no one was willing to accept him for who he was or to offer him a safe landing – sanctuary from his past.

Finding Sanctuary
In the autumn of 2013, the Windsor-Essex Humane Society was out of options.  After countless efforts of promotion, still no one wanted Cowboy.  It was at this point that the Humane Society reached out to Penny Lane Farm Sanctuary with hopes of permanently placing Cowboy.   Without question or hesitation, he was welcomed with open arms.  Thanks to a number of kind and compassionate individuals who trailered him all the way from Windsor to Ottawa, Ontario, Cowboy arrived at the sanctuary in November of 2013 – his new and forever home.

Sweet Orphaned Baby Rhino Who Tried to Adopt a Car as His New Mother is Rescued. Today we bring you the incredible rescue story of Donnie, a scared and confused baby rhino who was orphaned at the hands of poachers in Kruger National Park.

After his mother’s death, Donnie, heartbreakingly, tried to adopt cars passing through the park as his new mother. This phenomenon, known as imprinting, is a form of associative learning that occurs whenever a young animal starts to regard an individual or object as its parent. This is not uncommon in safari parks, where baby animals can often be seen following vehicles after their parents have died.

Debbie English, a fourth-year veterinary science student who witnessed Donnie’s heartbreaking search for a new mother, posted some photos of him on Facebook.

Meanwhile, her father Don, a Regional Ranger who grew up in Kruger Park, tried to comfort the disorientated rhino.

The distressing sight of the young animal sniffing around the grey vehicle – perhaps mistaking the color for that of his mother – prompted Don to seek the assistance of a veterinarian.

Donnie had to be tranquillized and airlifted to a new place of safety – Care for Wild Africa, an organization which rehabilitates wild animals on a reserve in Mpumalanga, South Africa.

Three hours into the journey, there was a brief moment of panic when Donnie flat-lined and appeared to have stopped breathing.

According to Corne Schalkwyk, however, “this little guy is not only special but had all his angels on board.” After three minutes of resuscitation efforts, Donnie opened his eyes once more and began to breathe again.

Following his successful transfer to the sanctuary, Care for Wild Africa spokesperson Marnelle van deer Merwe said, “He’s doing very well. He drank all his milk and he’s walking around.”

Donnie’s story highlights not only the kindness of everyone who came to his aid, but also the incredible work that park rangers have to do every single day in stopping illegal wildlife poaching and caring for its orphaned and injured victims. Today, Gopal is a happy and healthy little donkey—but many others like him urgently need Animal Rahat's help.

In many parts of India, donkeys are forced to carry overloaded, poorly balanced carts of passengers, bricks, and gravel for miles on end. This grueling work often results in serious wounds on their backs, which can become infected. Even when sick or injured, many donkeys are still forced to work, often until the day they stumble for the last time and are then simply discarded on the roadside to face starvation or disease or to be hit by passing vehicles.

Animal Rahat ("Relief") offers vital care to donkeys like Gopal and countless other precious animals in need—dogs, bullocks, horses, and others—in poverty-stricken regions of rural Maharashtra, one of the largest states in India. All of Animal Rahat's veterinarians are on call for emergencies around the clock, every day of the year.
