Ethical, Vegan Fashion Steals the Show at PETA's Style-Studded Panel Event

Can "ethical" be synonymous with "fashion-forward"? Can vegan materials perform just as well as or better than animal-derived products? Is it possible to be at the top of your fashion game and be cruelty-free? Gathering together the designers making all the above possible, PETA hosted its first-ever Vegan Fashion + Sustainability panel talk with designers Joshua Katcher (founder, Brave GentleMan; faculty, Parsons), Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart (founder, VAUTE), Stephanie Nicora (founder, Nicora Johns), Rebecca Mink (founder, Mink Shoes), and moderator Taryn Hipwell, a member of the faculty at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM). A packed house of design students, style influencers, and fashion industry change-makers attended the event, which was held at Pyo Gallery LA, just a couple of short blocks from FIDM's campus.

Can you step inside the life of a baby animal in a laboratory for just one minute?

 Every year, millions of baby animals are torn away from their mothers and forced to endure horrific experiments, which are often paid for with taxpayer money. Animals are imprisoned and may be crippled or infected with diseases and eventually killed.

Can Virtual Reality Help Orcas at SeaWorld?

How do you get people to understand what it's like for an orca to be taken away from his or her mom?

In PETA's stunning new empathy-building experience, viewers go underwater to swim with a grieving mother orca, voiced by Edie Falco. People can see—and feel—an artistic representation of SeaWorld's cruelty to orcas for themselves, thanks to this virtual reality project.

Although "I, Orca" is a make-believe undersea experience, in reality, all orcas now living in captivity were either torn away from their natural ocean homes and families or born into a marine-animal prison that they can't escape.
