Dawa
Yangzum Sherpa presents her experiences summiting Everest & K2 in
"Mountaineering as a Woman in Today's World", a Nepal Earthquake recovery
fundraiser for The Maya Sherpa Project.
On July 24th, 2014 Dawa Yangzum
became one of only 18 women to ever summit 8,611 m (28,251 feet) K2 in Pakistan.
This achievement was the culmination of years or hard work and struggle from
growing up in a small village in Nepal to becoming a female porter then guide
and finally mountaineer.
After the dual earthquakes and countless
aftershocks that have devastated communities in Nepal, Dawa Yangzum has put her
climbing career on hold in order to assist in the recovery of her home
country.
As part of the recovery process, she presented a very personal
and inspirational slideshow about her climbing pursuits to a full capacity crowd
at the Mt Everest Cafe in Fort Collins, Colorado on May 17th, 2015. The event
was a fundraiser for a Colorado-based non-profit called The Maya Sherpa Project.
