Two Important Calls On Tax Day (Tomorrow)

The fight over the Trans-Pacific Partnership is about to heat up very quickly.

As soon as Monday, legislation will be introduced in the Senate that would give the president "Fast Track" authority to pass the trade deal many are calling "NAFTA on steroids" -- setting up a situation later this year in which Congress would be pressured to pass the TPP without amendments.

The TPP is a disastrous trade agreement designed to protect the interests of the largest multi-national corporations at the expense of workers, consumers, the environment and the foundations of American democracy. It will also negatively impact some of the poorest people in the world.

Now is the perfect time for us to put our heads together and talk about what we need to do to defeat the TPP once and for all. That's why I'm returning to join a DFA Live conference call this Wednesday, April 15, at 8pm ET / 5pm PT to chat with DFA members about the TPP, Fast Track, and other issues on the minds of DFA members.

Would you like to chat with me about the TPP and other important progressive issues? Then click here to RSVP for my DFA Live call this Wednesday, April 15, at 8pm ET.

The media has done a horrible job of covering the TPP -- one of the most important issues facing our country and the world in the coming months. That's why I think it's vitally important that we have a conversation about the TPP now. The only way we are going to stop this disastrous deal from passing is if we work together to educate our friends and neighbors about it as soon as possible.

In January, more than 3,200 Democracy for America members signed up for a lively, in-depth DFA Live discussion focused on Citizens United. I thoroughly enjoyed it -- especially the insightful questions and thoughts shared by DFA members. I can't wait to do it again, to hear your ideas, and to answer your questions.

Don't miss your chance to chat with me about the TPP and Fast Track -- and anything else that is on your mind. Click here to RSVP for this special DFA Live call on Wednesday, April 15, at 8pm ET.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to talking with you on Wednesday.

Iris
Join PETA President Ingrid Newkirk and me for a town hall meeting to discuss recent victories and investigations as well as new challenges to PETA's work for animals.

Earlier this year, PETA was alerted to the plight of Iris, a 32-year-old chimpanzee found living alone in a tiny, dark cell at a roadside zoo in Georgia. PETA's volunteer often found her huddled under a filthy blanket—and could estimate the number of days since the cell had last been cleaned by counting the food trays that had been slid into it to feed her.

Thanks to the help of a generous PETA President's Circle member, Iris will never be alone again. Freed from the hellish roadside zoo that held her for more than 15 years, she now lives at a beautiful sanctuary in Florida, where she quickly began adapting to her new home and making friends with other rescued chimpanzees.

Victories like Iris' and the news that Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus will stop forcing elephants to perform in its shows by 2018 are terrific signs of progress in our work to free animals from the beatings and misery of cruel "entertainment." Yet right now, those who profit from abusing animals are working to turn back that progress, going on a major offensive, distorting the issues, and working to enact legislation to protect their greedy industries' bottom lines at animals' expense. We can't have that!

Please join us on Wednesday, April 15, at 7 p.m. EDT/4 p.m. PDT for a special town hall meeting to discuss PETA's recent victories and investigations, the challenges ahead, and how you help us stand up for animals in need.

We encourage you to join us online as we share exclusive details and heartbreaking images from recent PETA investigations and other work, such as helping to free Iris. To participate in the webinar, simply log on to PETA.org/AprilTownHall at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST at 7 p.m. EDT/4 p.m. PDT on April 15, and you'll be able to watch the presentation through your Web browser and submit your questions online. We'll send you a reminder e-mail about the town hall meeting shortly before it begins.
