The earthquake's devastation was instant.
Within mere moments, thousands of buildings in Nepal collapsed and thousands of
people were killed. Dozens of deadly aftershocks
followed.
Animals are suffering too. Thousands of dogs
and cats suffered blunt force injuries. And as communities try to recover,
animals will be at risk of disease and starvation.
Local
organizations are already asking for our help on the ground with animal rescue
efforts. Using the experience we've gained after the earthquake in
Haiti in 2010 and other disaster response efforts around the world, we're ready
to help. A team from IFAW-WTI will work with local partners to feed and provide
medical care for dogs, cats and other animals.
Many people no longer have
shelter but they are desperately trying to locate their pets and backyard farm
animals. The need for clean water, food, and medical care is urgent, so
we must act fast!
Right now, the situation is changing
by the hour. I'll keep you updated about what we're doing to save animals'
lives.
Please keep the people and animals of Nepal in your thoughts,
along with those who are sacrificing so much to rescue and care for them.
