Tell Groupon: No More Coupons for Circus Animal Cruelty

2015-03-17_Elephant_3.jpgI am calling on Groupon to end their partnership with Universoul Circus. Universoul Circus is notorious for their cruelty and poor treatment of animals. They've been caught depriving animals of veterinary care, keeping them in tiny cages for long, agonizing hours during travel and improperly handling their animals' food. Two Universoul employees were recently arrested for animal cruelty for torturing an elephant. These animals can't speak up for themselves, so I'm speaking out for them. Groupon, don't sell coupons for animal cruelty.
A crying elephant
You know it’s bad when a circus makes Ringling Bros look decent by comparison. Ringling announced their plan to start slowly phasing out their use of elephants over a period of three years. That’s still three more years of abuse, and we still aren’t happy with them, but it’s a step in the right direction - a step Universoul Circus has not taken. That’s why we’re asking you to speak out for the animals that UniverSoul Circus is mistreating.
UniverSoul is not only still using elephants -but they've also had employees and trainers ARRESTED on animal cruelty charges in other cities. Those responsible for the animals have been caught abusing them with billhooks, denying them veterinary care, keeping them in cramped cages, and so much more.

Last year, NYC authorities even temporarily prohibited UniverSoul from having tiger and elephant performances because the holding cages for both species were found to be inadequate to protect the safety of the public, the primary enclosures for tigers were determined insufficient for freedom of movement, and according to city vets, the elephants had not been cleared of their annual tuberculosis tests. But now they're back in New York for two months of shows.

Even worse: Now Groupon has partnered with UniverSoul to sell coupons to witness the cruelty.

Earlier this week, Chelsie asked you to speak out for these animals by signing our petition to stop coupons for cruelty - and thousands of you did. Even though I just joined NYCLASS, I know that to get Groupon’s attention, we’re going to need thousands more to speak out. Sign your name to speak out for these abused animals who can’t speak up for themselves.

The animals are counting on us. Don’t let them down. Click here to sign your name and share the petition with your friends..
