Sportsmen's Act

Loon
At the bidding of the National Rifle Association, a group of lawmakers has once again introduced an extreme bill to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency from saving wildlife and people from lead poisoning.

The so-called "Sportsmen's Act" aims to strip the EPA's authority to regulate toxic lead in ammunition and fishing tackle -- a move that will ensure millions more painful deaths for wildlife, including condors, eagles, loons and cranes.

The gun lobby's legislation ignores scientific evidence that lead from spent ammo and fishing tackle is the source of lead poisoning exposure for at least 130 species of birds and wildlife. More than 250 organizations in 40 states have called on the EPA to regulate this lead under the Toxic Substances Control Act. And state regulations, in place for seven years in California, have proved that requiring nontoxic hunting ammo will not restrict hunting.

Help us stop the NRA's toxic legislation and prevent millions of unnecessary and cruel deaths by urging your representatives to oppose the cynically named "Sportsmen's Act."
