Our Sea Lion Tsunami Continues

We’re awash in sea lions. I keep thinking the tide will turn and the deluge of starving sea lion pups needing our help will recede, but so far the floodwaters continue to rise.

These sick and starving young animals arrive in waves as our rescue vehicles bring new patients to The Marine Mammal Center hospital in Sausalito. Can you believe 10 more arrived just yesterday?

This pile of pups needs your help.

For perspective, at this time last year, we had admitted 14 patients. So far in 2015, we’ve admitted 320—and 92 percent of those patients are sea lions. In fact, we have more sea lions on-site than ever before in our 40 year history.

As our sea lion tsunami continues, we are struggling to keep our heads above water—treading water as fast as we can. Rest assured, our staff and volunteers are working harder than ever to give these starving pups the best chance possible.

But you, dear friend, are the lifeline we need right now. I urge you to support us today in this time of crisis.

Anything you can give will make a difference. If you’re worried that your gift is only a drop in the ocean, please know that it will surely have a ripple effect on the care we are able to extend to these vulnerable young sea lions.

Your support also sends a powerful message to the more than 1,100 volunteers working day and night to rescue and rehabilitate these starving pups. Let them know they are not alone in their fight to weather this storm.

P.S. It doesn’t take a dozen metaphors to make our plea clear: Your Help is Needed!
