#10 Terps Cap Regular Season at Nebraska Sunday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 10 Maryland men’s basketball team wraps up its first regular season in the Big Ten when it travels to Nebraska for a game against the Huskers at 7:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.

Storylines
Dez Wells posted a double-double on 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead No. 10 Maryland to a 60-50 win at Rutgers on Tuesday night. Jake Layman added 14 points and Melo Trimble chipped in with 10. Wells has scored in double-figures in 10 straight games, averaging 17.7 points per game with a .539 field goal percentage as the Terps have gone 8-2, including six-consecutive wins, during that span. Wells is currently 23rd on Maryland’s all-time career points list (1,327).

• Maryland has posted 25 wins this season, an eight-game improvement from its 17 victories during the 2013-14 season. The eight-game win total is tied for the second-highest improvement among Power Five schools.

• Maryland finished its inaugural season in the Big Ten with a perfect 9-0 home record. Overall, Maryland boasted an 18-1 home mark at XFINITY Center.

Melo Trimble was named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday. The guard averaged 17.5 points and connected on 11-of-23 (47.8%) from the floor in home wins over No. 5 Wisconsin and Michigan. Trimble shared the honor with Ohio State guard D’Angelo Russell.

• The Terps have been ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 poll for 14 straight weeks, the longest streak since 2002-03 when they were ranked all 19 weeks. Maryland was ranked 73 consecutive weeks from 1999-2003. This week they cracked the top 10 of the AP and USA Today/ESPN Coaches polls for the first time since Feb. 3, 2003 (ranked No. 8).

• Head coach Mark Turgeon is one-win shy of tying is record with most wins in a single-season (26). Turgeon led Wichita State to 26 wins as the Shockers advanced to the NCAA Sweet
Wells Wills #10 Terps Past Rutgers
Dez Wells scored six straight points after Rutgers tied the game late in the second half and No. 10 Maryland won its sixth straight game, a 60-50 victory over the Scarlet Knights on Tuesday night.

• Wells finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Terps sent Rutgers to its 13th straight loss. Jake Layman added 14 points for Maryland and freshman Melo Trimble had 10.
Scouting Nebraska
• Nebraska is 13-16 overall after losing seven straight heading into Sunday’s regular season finale. The Huskers fell at Illinois, 69-57, their last time out on Wednesday.

• Terran Petteway is fourth in the Big Ten in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game. Shavon Shields leads the team in rebounding, posting 5.9 per game, while chipping offensively with 14.9 points per outing.

• Maryland leads the all-time series, 1-0, after defeating Nebraska, 69-65, in the first-ever meeting between the two programs on Feb. 19.

• Senior Dez Wells has scored in double-figures in 10 straight games, averaging 17.7 points per game with a .539 field goal percentage as the Terps have gone 8-2, including six-consecutive wins during that span.

• The Raleigh, N.C., native, has recorded 20-plus points in five games this season, including three of last five and led the team in scoring (26), rebounds (7) and assists (4) vs. No. 5 Wisconsin (2/24).

• He ranks ninth in scoring (15.2), first in three-point field goal pct. (.511) and eighth in free throw pct. (.798) in the Big Ten.
Trimble Guides Terps Past Nebraska in First Meeting
Melo Trimble scored 26 points, including a pair of pivotal three-pointers down the stretch, and then-No. 16 Maryland defeated Nebraska 69-65 Feb. 19 in the first-ever meeting between the teams.

Dez Wells and Jake Layman each scored 14 for the Terrapins, who were locked in a tie game with 5:38 left before Trimble took over.
Turgeon Named Semifinalist for National Coach of the Year
• Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the Naismith National Coach of the Year award, announced March 4.

• Under Turgeon, Maryland has posted 25 wins this season, an eight-game improvement from its 17 victories during the 2013-14 season. The eight-game win total is tied for the second-highest improvement among Power Five schools.

• The list of 15 semifinalists will be cut to four on March 19 with the winner to be announced April 5.
