BIG NEWS: President Obama just vetoed Congressional approval of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline!
Moments ago, President Obama vetoed a bill forcing construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. This is a huge victory in our fight to stop this dirty, dangerous project!

The new Republican leadership in the Senate thought they could pay back the oil and gas industries for buying their elections. Under the direction of Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, they decided that their top priority, after eight years in the minority, was forcing this pipeline through.

But, thanks in large part to years of pressure from people like you, today President Obama stood up to the Big Polluters who bought our Congress and said NO to the Keystone XL bill. Now we need President Obama to reject Keystone XL once and for all!

This victory is the culmination of six years' worth of your hard work, fighting to stop this pipeline along every step of the way. You’ve sent letters to President Obama, called your Members of Congress, and taken to the streets to protest Keystone XL. Some of us even got arrested. Together, we sent the strong message to the White House that selling out the planet for a giveaway to Big Oil is not okay -- and so far President Obama has listened!
But this fight isn’t over. Now that the pipeline has been vetoed, the next step is for President Obama to reject it entirely. This month his own EPA confirmed what we’ve been saying all along: the Keystone XL pipeline fails the President’s climate test. There are no more excuses! President Obama must reject the pipeline NOW!

This could be a turning point for our movement. Throughout this campaign, we’ve shown how much power we can have when we unite around a common goal. Together, with people from every corner of the country -- farmers and landowners, climate activists and conservationists -- we stood up for ourselves and our planet over Big Oil's profits.

We still have a lot of work to do to prevent climate change and keep fossil fuels in the ground. But the President’s veto shows that we’re building momentum and building power. And with the President on our side, we’re in a better position to fight back against the Koch Brothers’ Congress and everything they throw at us. Now, we have to make sure President Obama keeps it up.

This victory is thanks to the hard work of a giant coalition — including your signature on important Care2 petitions. But the fight against Keystone XL and the tar sands isn't over yet, not by a long shot. This veto only blocks Congress from taking the usual approval process out of the president's hands. The construction permit applications are still pending, and it's up to the president to reject them!
Let's send 50,000 Care2 signatures to President Obama right away and tell him: Thank you for the veto, but it's time to get the rest of the job done. Reject Keystone XL's application once and for all!
In fact, if President Obama doesn't issue a final rejection of the pipeline right away, it will only get easier for the Republicans to ram it through — the next time they pass KXL legislation, it won't be standalone like this one. Next, Boehner and McConnell will try to attach pipeline approval to a larger energy package or appropriations bill that would be much harder for President Obama to veto. But if the president rejects the application now, there won't be anything left for the Republicans to approve.
President Obama has listened to you about Keystone XL once, and he'll do so again. Sign the petition today and tell him to issue final rejection of Keystone XL once and for all!
Congrats on helping win the veto, and thank you for raising your voice again
It's days like these we remember why we do this. We asked the leader of the free world to stand up for our children’s future -- and he did.
Earlier today, the Keystone XL bill made its way to President Obama’s desk, where he wasted no time in putting his presidential veto to good use. It was no doubt a disappointing day for Senator McConnell and other supporters of the fossil fuel industry in Congress, but a huge victory for America. And now there’s only one thing left for the President to do.
Will you join me in asking President Obama to reject Keystone XL once and for all?
Today’s veto was crucial. But for President Obama to continue building a bright, prosperous future for our country, he must stand up to the foreign oil companies and corporate polluters, protect the health and safety of the next generation, and reject TransCanada's application to build the Keystone XL pipeline.
Add your name and tell President Obama to reject Keystone XL.
Our movement is powerful and on the rise. Whatever happens going forward, I’m proud to have stood with each and every one of you in this pivotal battle in the most important fight of our generation.

Just a few years ago, KXL was considered a done deal in Washington — but together we fought back. You made phone calls, sent emails and letters, and spoke up to friends and neighbors. Fossil fuel companies are throwing millions into maintaining their destructive status quo. But they didn’t account for your perseverance, creativity, and courage. You’ve rallied, you’ve marched, and now — in the final moments, you can take this through to the finish line.

Tell President Obama to go further than a presidential veto and REJECT the Keystone Pipeline proposal altogether!

The science is clear: the Keystone XL Pipeline would have a devastating effect on our climate and set the stage for increased fossil fuel dependence for years to come. And we know all too well that pipeline oil spills, like the recent 63,000-gallon spill near the Yellowstone River, has devastating effects to neighboring communities, drinking water, and our health.

The president's outright rejection of the KXL permits would be the final nail in the coffin for Keystone. And with partisan bickering over KXL behind us, we’d finally be able to focus on the real opportunity ahead: building America’s new, clean energy economy.

Please join me in asking President Obama to ensure his climate legacy by rejecting the Keystone XL proposal for good. This is a historic moment for the power of the people’s movement. Let’s take this home!

Because we are powerful together.

Chip in today to our Stop KXL campaign and defeat this pipeline once and for all!

Wow, Don. We are blown away.

Today, just moments ago, President Obama VETOED Congress’s bill to force the approval of the dangerous Keystone XL Pipeline.

This is only the third time in his presidency that Obama has used his veto power, and we don’t take that lightly. This veto is a direct result of the incredible, passionate, and unrelenting efforts from environmentalists like you over the past few months and years.

Because of your generous contributions and support, we’ve had the resources we’ve needed to ratchet up the pressure against Keystone. We’ve made senators’ phones ring off the hook, flooded House members’ inboxes with hundreds of thousands of messages, and encouraged President Obama to veto Congress’s horrible bill. And it’s worked.

But our fight is not over yet. We still need President Obama to reject TransCanada’s permit outright so they cannot build this pipeline and push their disgusting, dirty, and dangerous tar sands oil through our country. And to do that we need your help.

Donate to LCV's Stop KXL campaign and help us defeat the Keystone pipeline and protect our environment and health »

The new Republican leadership promised to make Keystone their number-one priority after winning control of Congress this past November, and it was the first bill they took up when they started in January. We know what’s coming next — legislation to gut the EPA’s budget, roll back clean air and water protections, and expand offshore drilling.

But we have incredible momentum right now against these environmental attacks. In September, nearly half a million people rallied for action on climate change in NYC; in November, President Obama made a historic deal with China to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions; in December, more than one million comments were submitted in support of the EPA’s Clean Power Plan; in January, unprecedented protections for the Arctic Refuge were announced; and now President Obama has vetoed Congress’s bill to force the approval of the Keystone pipeline.

This is what your contributions and support have helped accomplish. All the work we do to fight climate change and support pro-environment policies is only possible because of supporters like you. Now is not the time to take our foot off the pedal — we need to continue moving forward and continue cranking up the pressure so we can defeat Keystone once and for all.

Keep the momentum moving forward and stop Keystone PERMANENTLY. Donate today »

We know the Keystone pipeline comes at far too great a cost — contaminated water, destroyed forests, and immense carbon pollution, to name a few — and it must be stopped. And Don — we are so, so close to victory. Can you chip in today to give us the final burst we need to put an end to Keystone once and for all?

Thank you for your support and generosity.

GREAT NEWS: President Obama just vetoed the bill that would have forced approval of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.

This is a huge victory for NRDC and our partners -- and for activists like you, who sent President Obama hundreds of thousands of messages urging him to put people before polluters and veto this climate-wrecking pipeline. Your voices were heard!

But the fight is not yet over. The State Department is getting ready to issue its final decision that will determine whether or not the pipeline is in America's national interest -- and should be rejected.

We're now at another turning point in this fight -- and we need you to make your voice heard in opposition to the pipeline once again.

Please thank President Obama for vetoing the Keystone XL bill -- and urge him to go one step further by rejecting the pipeline for good.

The President has promised to stop the Keystone XL if it drives significantly more global warming pollution and climate chaos. The evidence is now overwhelming that this project would do exactly that.

Tell the President that the Keystone XL is not in our national interest -- and that he's got overwhelming public support to reject it!

Make no mistake: we're still up against big polluters and their allies in Congress who are determined to bulldoze ahead with their Big Polluter Agenda.

Their first order of business is to green light this climate-wrecking pipeline, which would endanger the American heartland, worsen our dependence on fossil fuels and accelerate climate change. They're not going to give up without a fight.

I'm sure you agree: We've come too far to give up now. Please make your voice heard at the White House right away.
Today, we're one step closer to a final rejection of Keystone XL -- President Obama has vetoed Congress' bill that would have forced him to approve the pipeline.
It’s not the same as rejecting the pipeline, but it is a big deal: it’s just the third time this President has vetoed a bill. He wouldn't be taking this step if not for the extraordinary work you've done to push him to take this issue seriously. A few years ago, he was barely acknowledging the pipeline, and now he’s talking about climate change often, and Keystone is one of the top issues in Washington.
This is history in the making -- and it’s because of you.
Now it's time to make our closing argument to the President. He has the power, the information and the opportunity to reject the pipeline now.

Today dozens of movement leaders, economists, musicians and filmmakers -- folks like Bill McKibben, Willie Nelson, Mark Ruffalo, Julianne Moore, Patti Smith and others -- just released a Unity Letter ahead of the President's final decision.
Here is the full letter, including some of the other signers whose names you might recognize.

The only thing it's missing is your name at the bottom. I'm hoping (hoping!) that this will be our final message to the President about Keystone XL. The more unified we are, the clearer the message will be.  Click here to read and add your name to the Unity Letter against Keystone XL: 350.org/unityletter/

I want to say this again because it's important: people power has brought us to this point. Whatever the President decides, we have done what we set out to accomplish -- build a movement able to force President Obama to take the climate crisis seriously.
With thousands of people standing beside us, I’m confident we can move the President to reject the pipeline once and for all. I hope you can sign with me, and be there with us as we make our mark on history.
