Layman Named B1G Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland junior forward Jake Layman earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday. This marks the second conference honor for Layman, who garnered co-Big Ten Player of the Week honors on Dec. 22.

Layman, who averaged 17.5 points and 12.5 rebounds, led No. 14 Maryland (17-2, 5-1 B1G) to a pair of wins over Rutgers and Michigan State last week.  A junior from Wrentham, Mass., Layman posted a career-best 13 rebounds and added 12 points in the win over the Scarlet Knights and followed with a season-high 23 points and 12 rebounds against the Spartans. For the season, Layman is averaging 14.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game and has a team-best four double-doubles.

The Terps have won three Big Ten Player of the Week honors (Layman twice) and freshman guard Melo Trimble, who earned that distinction on Dec. 1.  In addition, Trimble earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors on Dec. 1 and was co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Dec. 15.
