Jake Layman scored 14 points and No. 11 Maryland bounced back from a loss earlier in the week, beating Purdue 69-60 Saturday. The balanced Terrapins put four scorers in double figures. Dez Wells had 13 and Melo Trimble and Richaud Pack each added 11.

• The Terps used a new lineup against Purdue - their seventh this season - including Melo Trimble, Jared Nickens, Dez Wells, Jake Layman and Damonte Dodd. Led by 11 points from Richaud Pack, Maryland outscored Purdue a staggering 28-12 off the bench.

• Maryland’s 3-1 start in Big Ten Conference play is its best start since the Terps went 4-1 to begin the 2009-10 league campaign. Maryland finished its conference slate with a 13-3 record that season, sharing the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Regular Season title with Duke.

• Rutgers picked up its highest ranked victory in program history when it downed No. 4 Wisconsin, 67-62, on Sunday night its last time out. The Scarlet Knights were led in scoring by Myles Mack and Kadeem Jack, who notched 21 and 20 points, respectively. Rutgers outscored Wisconsin 44-27 in the second half.

• Maryland and Rutgers are tied 3-3 in the all-time series with the Scarlet Knights winning the last meeting, 95-79, on Dec. 28, 1991 at the Fiesta Bowl Classic at the McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz.

• Maryland won in its first visit to Mackey Arena in the first all-time meeting between the two programs. The Terps benefited from 28 points off the bench.

• Maryland Athletics will celebrate the recent Hall of Fame inductions of legendary men’s basketball coach Gary Williams with a special event on Jan. 16 at the College Park Marriott & Conference Center.

• “A Night to Honor Gary Williams” will feature speakers Juan Dixon, Walt Williams and Kevin Anderson and will celebrate the induction of Williams to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. He was the first coach in history to be selected to both institutions in the same year.

Season Preview: Terps Think B1G in 2014-15

• With a top-10 recruiting class and his most experienced team in four years as head coach at Maryland, Mark Turgeon has the Terrapins poised for its inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference.

• Maryland, which finished 17-15 last season, boasts a balanced team featuring a mix of veteran leadership and key newcomers. Among the leaders is 2013 ACC-All Conferece and USBWA All-District III selection Dez Wells, who changed his number to 44 to honor a deceased former teammate for his senior season. Wells is joined by seniors Evan Smotrycz and Jon Graham and sophomore Damonte Dodd in the frontcourt, in addition to junior Jake Layman on the wing.

• Turgeon also hauled in the ninth-best recruiting class in the nation according to Scout.com, showcasing McDonald’s All-American point guard Melo Trimble (Upper Marlboro, Md.), shooting guard Dion Wiley (Oxon Hill, Md.), guard Jared Nickens (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) and forward Michal Cekovsky (Slovakia, Europe).
