Thanks to my great parents for dinner. Thanks to Maryland (Terrapins) basketball players for winning pretty soundly when all was said and done today and thanks to my ram team for starting a brawl after pushing the guy down by the face. that was the best part of that brawl....Thanks also for Flyers win later on tonight....Thanks again Everyone! STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) - Jake Layman tied a season-high with 21 points and added a career-best 11 rebounds as No. 17 Maryland beat Oklahoma State 73-64 on Sunday to improve to 11-1.
Layman was three-for-five from three-point range and the Terrapins were 10-for-25 overall from long range. It is the first double-double this season for Layman, who has scored in double--figures in all 12 games in the 2014-15 campaign.
Freshmen Melo Trimble and Jared Nickens had 16 and 11 points, respectively, while Richaud Pack had a season-high 10 rebounds.
Le'Bryan Nash led Oklahoma State (9-2) with 17 points and nine rebounds. Anthony Hickey had 16 points, and Phil Forte III added 13.
Maryland opened the second half with a 15-3 run to take a 17-point lead.
Oklahoma State cut it to 10 with nine minutes left, but Layman hit a three-pointer and finished a fast break with a layup to make it 56-41 with 7:50 remaining.
The Cowboys cut it to nine on Hickey's 3-pointer, but Layman came up big again, this time with a driving, dunk for a 62-51 advantage with 4:42 to play.
Hickey's three-pointer made it 67-61 with 53 seconds left.
Oklahoma State has lost just five times in 198 nonconference home games dating to 1987.
Entering Sunday’s showdown in Stillwater, the Terps ranked fourth in the NCAA in free throws made with 214 and they hit 15 against the Cowboys to move their season total to 229, second behind UMass (233). Trimble was seven-of-seven and leads the nation in free throws made at 85.
The Terps return to action when they face Oakland on Dec. 27 at 5 p.m. at the XFINITY Center. The game will be shown live on the Big Ten Network.
