COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 15 Maryland men’s basketball team will face Oakland in its final non-conference game Saturday at 5 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.

Jake Layman was tabbed Big Ten co-Player of the Week, announced Monday. Layman, who tied his season-high in points (21) and posted a career-best in rebounds (11), led No. 17 Maryland (11-1) to a 73-64 win at Oklahoma State Sunday. A junior from Wrentham, Mass., Layman connected on 7-of-12 field goal attempts, made 3-of-5 3-point attempts and recorded his first double-double of the season. Layman has also scored in double-figures in all 12 games for the Terps this season.

• The Terps’ No. 15 ranking in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 represents Maryland’s highest ranking in the polls since Jan. 2, 2006 when Maryland was ranked 14th. Maryland is the second-highest ranked team in the Big Ten behind Wisconsin.

• Maryland is 6-1 since Wooden Award nominee Dez Wells broke his right wrist against No. 13 Iowa State at the CBE Classic. The Terps are outscoring opponents by nearly nine points a game, led by double-figure scoring averages by Jake Layman (17.3), Melo Trimble (16.6) and Richaud Pack (11.3).

• Maryland is a stellar 20-4 in the month of December under head coach Mark Turgeon, including a 4-1 mark in 2014.

• Oakland is 4-9 overall and is led in scoring by Kahlil Felder who paces Oakland with 16.8 ppg. Corey Petros provides an efficient second option, sporting a field goal percentage of 60 percent. Head coach Greg Kampe is the third-longest tenured head coach in the NCAA Division I men’s basketball. This is the first meeting between Oakland and Maryland.

It is the first double-double this season for Layman, who has scored in double-figures in all 12 games in the 2014-15 campaign. Freshmen Melo Trimble and Jared Nickens had 16 and 11 points, respectively, while Richaud Pack had a season-high 10 rebounds.

• With a top-10 recruiting class and his most experienced team in four years as head coach at Maryland, Mark Turgeon has the Terrapins poised for its inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference.

• Maryland, which finished 17-15 last season, boasts a balanced team featuring a mix of veteran leadership and key newcomers. Among the leaders is 2013 ACC-All Conferece and USBWA All-District III selection Dez Wells, who changed his number to 44 to honor a deceased former teammate for his senior season. Wells is joined by seniors Evan Smotrycz and Jon Graham and sophomore Damonte Dodd in the frontcourt, in addition to junior Jake Layman on the wing.

• Turgeon also hauled in the ninth-best recruiting class in the nation according to Scout.com, showcasing McDonald’s All-American point guard Melo Trimble (Upper Marlboro, Md.), shooting guard Dion Wiley (Oxon Hill, Md.), guard Jared Nickens (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) and forward Michal Cekovsky (Slovakia, Europe).
